The finalists have been chosen in this year’s e-Government National Awards.

The UK’s most closely watched public sector technology awards, supported by the Prime Minister David Cameron, recognise excellence and innovation in digital initiatives in national and local government, the NHS, education and the third sector.

The Awards ceremony, attended by ministers, top-civil servants and technology experts from the public and private sectors, will be held on Thursday 20 January at the London Guildhall.

Prime Minister David Cameron said: “The e-Government National Awards recognise some of the brilliant work done by digital specialists working across national and local government. One of our big ambitions is to make government more transparent, open and accountable and digital communications will play a massive part in that. I congratulate all the nominees and encourage all digital specialists across the public sector to follow their good example and innovation.”

John Suffolk, Award judge and the Government's Chief Information Officer, said “Once again it has been a privilege to be involved in the e-Government awards, and I offer my congratulations to all the winners. Against the backdrop of increasingly scarce financial resources, the sheer innovation, quality and passion for public service that these projects demonstrate make me hugely proud to be leader of IT in the Public Sector.”

Ben Heald, awards judge and CEO of Sift Media, the Awards organiser, said: “I’d like to offer my congratulations to all of the selected finalists. The standard of this year’s entries was very high, and really highlights how the public sector is reacting to the current conditions, using technology, ingeniously in some cases, to create efficiencies and improve services.”

Jos Creese, Award Judge and President of Socitm and CIO at Hampshire County Council says: "Judging the e-Government National Awards has been a real privilege - there are so many examples of exceptional project delivery, innovation through IT and sheer hard work to learn from. The hardest part was to select a few finalists from such a long list of outstanding entries."

Keith Bannister, Award judge and UK head of KPMG’s Technology practice said: ?“KPMG is proud to be lead sponsor of the awards for the fifth year running. A key theme of this year’s Awards is how government services can help to build a fairer, more inclusive society by giving all citizens and businesses the opportunity to directly interact with them. The finalists we have chosen truly reflect that objective on a number of levels. Additionally, we have seen great examples of the innovative use of emerging technologies to deliver better value services to citizens.”

Ian Cunningham, Award judge and Head of Public Sector Sales, Vodafone: “Vodafone are proud to be involved with the judging of the e-government National awards and are delighted for the successful finalists. It is exciting to see so many examples of how innovation and technology can address the various priorities and challenges within an organisation and improve the delivery of services.”

Steve Palmer, CIO, London Borough of Hillingdon said: "These awards showcase the alignment of service users, business and technology. They are shining examples of the significant innovation and dedication that often goes unreported and they are a credit to the work of all sectors involved".

Chris Histed, founder, PublicTechnology.net & The e-Government National Awards said: "Chairing the judging was this year especially challenging as we had such a high standard of nominations. Our judges were impressed with the demonstrable major impact that these ICT -driven projects and services have had. As we move into the lower-cost future, where the Big Society needs to be delivered to improve local services, the finalists and winners offer a yardstick of excellence the whole public sector can learn from".
