One year on from establishing its Middle East regional office in Dubai, which coincided with Gitex 2009, SafeNet has reinforced and accelerated its business growth and development across the Middle East and Africa region, comprising almost 70 markets. SafeNet opened the office in Dubai after a decade of working in the region, protecting and encrypting sensitive data, and reflects the growing importance of the regional markets, adding to the company’s global presence of 26 offices and more than 25,000 customers in 100 countries.
MEA regional business is enjoying growth, due to strong penetration of the eGovernment and banking sectors, working with high profile customers in partnership with established technology partners in markets across the Middle East and Africa.
SafeNet’s increasing involvement in the Middle East includes providing security products used by Middle East governments for securing national identity solutions (such as EIDA’s programme in the UAE, and e-passports in Algeria). The majority of bank transactions in the Middle East and Africa region use SafeNet solutions to secure financial transactions.
SafeNet will return to GITEX in 2010 with a focus on Information Lifecycle Data Protection Solutions and their use by the banking and retail sectors to comply with PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) requirements. Since opening the Dubai office, SafeNet has established its position in the PCI security arena. PCI-DSS is an independent industry standard created by the Payment Card Industry as a global data security standard to protect cardholder data and combat fraud. Data breaches and online fraud are on the rise, and since the introduction of the PCI-DSS mandate in 2005 the cost per breached record has increased by 47% to $204.(source Ponemon Institute 2009).
The increasing recognition among GCC states that effective Data Protection technology is a vital part of an effective IT infrastructure is creating many opportunities for SafeNet solutions. Encryption of sensitive information has become a significant focus for enterprises and financial organisations throughout the MEA region with the increased governance and regulatory compliance requirements.
Sebastien Pavie, Regional Manager MEA for SafeNet based in Dubai, said: “SafeNet has had a very successful first year of operation in Dubai and the greater proximity to our customers and technology partners is producing a dividend in terms of strong business development. SafeNet is involved in high profile projects in the banking and government sectors, from Qatar to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and Ghana to Nigeria. Dubai is proving to be an excellent business hub from which to service and support more effectively customers across a very broad region including our largest single market, which is Saudi Arabia. The region continues to offer exciting potential, with increased internet penetration, increasing online and credit card translations, and the adoption of national identity programmes and our presence in Dubai will continue to grow to reflect this.”
