"Our strong focus on global citizenship is vital to both our stakeholders and our long-term business strategy," said Steve Loranger, ITT's chairman, president and chief executive officer. "We are proud of our global efforts to consistently integrate environmental, social and governance considerations into our daily operations."
Highlights of the report include the fact that over the past five years ITT's operations have reduced energy consumption by 31 percent, water use by 27 percent, hazardous waste generation by 46 percent and intensity of greenhouse gas emissions by 51 percent. ITT is targeting an additional 15 percent reduction in all of these areas over the next five years. Furthermore, ITT reports that by the end of 2010 its signature corporate citizenship program, ITT Watermark®, will have provided access to safe water and sanitation to 500,000 people and that by 2013, the program aims to reach 1 million more people through a $10.5 million pledge.
For the first time, ITT's Global Citizenship Report includes videos featuring ITT executives' perspectives on various global citizenship topics.
Every year since 1996, ITT has published an annual report that documents performance in the areas of environment, safety and health. The company's reporting was expanded in 2006 to cover all aspects of global citizenship. ITT uses the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Sustainability Reporting Framework to report and track its progress.
