The Chief Minister, Mr. K Rosaiah who was the chief guest presented the Outstanding Export Performance Awards 2009-10. In all, 12 awards were presented for export performance. While Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited bagged the Outstanding Exports Award (Overall category), Cadila Healthcare was awarded Outstanding Exports Award (Overall Emerging Category). Aurobindo Pharma Limited bagged the Outstanding Exports Award Formulations (Overall category) and Matrix Laboratories Limited won the Outstanding Exports Award Formulations (Emerging category).
Some of the companies that bagged the Patents Awards 2009-10, presented to companies who secured patents in 2009-10, included Suven Life Sciences (Gold awardee for Drug Discovery product category), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited (Silver awardee for Drug Discovery category) and Matrix Laboratories Limited (Certification of Appreciation in API / Bulk drugs product category).
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister Mr. K Rosaiah said, “I am very happy to place on record that, after establishment of Pharmexcil, the exports of our country have grown from about USD 3.8 billion to USD 8.9 billion. Exports have grown with formulations at 58%, bulk drugs at 41% and herbals at 1%.” The state government had supported establishment of Pharmexcil in Hyderabad through seed capital assistance. “I compliment Pharmexcil for conducting this event on a grand scale. I wish the deliberations in this conclave will go a long way to excel the growth of Indian Pharma sector,” he added.
“The Indian market will grow from USD 8.4 billion in 2007 to USD 21.5 billion in 2015. A significant point to note is that 8% of the market in 2015 will be from sales of patented drugs, which is a clear result of the respect for patents in India. We are amidst an ecosystem that fosters a culture for innovation,” said Mr. Smitesh Shah, chairman, Pharmexcil.
Earlier, Mr. Stefan Borgas, CEO, Lonza AG (Switzerland) delivered the key note speech on “Global Paradigm Shift in Pharma”. Mr. Rajeev Kher, joint secretary, department of commerce, Govt. of India, Dr. S M Jharwal, chairman, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, Mr. B P Acharya, principal secretary, industries department, Govt. of AP, Mr. R P Meena, director general, drugs and copy rights, Govt. of AP and Dr. P V Appaji, executive director, Pharmexcil were present on the occasion.
