Salisbury, MD, United States, 2010/08/31 - BIG BIM little bim author Finith Jernigan AIA, and Kimon Onuma FAIA, creator of the ONUMA System combine their expertise in the increasingly competitive building information modeling (BIM) and integrated decision making markets.
East is meeting west with the alignment of Salisbury, MD based architect and BIG BIM little bim author Finith Jernigan, with Pasadena, CA based Onuma Inc to combine their expertise in the increasingly competitive building information modeling (BIM) and integrated decision making markets. The alignment gives Onuma additional resources to better serve their federal government clients such as the General Services Administration and the US Coast Guard.
Kimon Onuma, FAIA, an industry thought leader bridging the gap between traditional design practice and next generation services and Finith Jernigan, AIA, an expert in integrated design and construction practices, have worked together for many years. This alignment formalizes their relationship and will operate under the Onuma brand.
Finith Jernigan created his firm, Design Atlantic Ltd (designatlantic.com) to manage the information of construction and facilities by using parametric design tools to plan and deliver functional, efficient and sustainable projects. Over the last decade he has created an approach that is streamlined to make best use of strategic alliances, interoperable software systems and long-term management of information to help clients better manage facilities. Mr. Jernigan, brings this level of support to the Onuma team.
“Kimon Onuma and I have worked successfully as a team to develop next practices, for a decade,” said Jernigan. “We are seeing increasing numbers of owners searching for firms that can deliver on the promise and, as an integrated team we can serve more owners, on more projects, globally.”
Onuma Inc is leading architecture into the 21st century through the fusion of architectural principles, technology and knowledge capture — enabling a profound and fundamental change in the professions’ understanding of problem solving, sustainability, and communication.
"Owners are asking for the power and benefits that come from the new ways of working that are rippling though the construction industry," said Onuma. "With the addition of Mr. Jernigan to our team we have strengthened our resources and have a full time east coast presence."
Onuma created the Onuma System™, a web-based Building Information Model (BIM) and geographic information system that revolutionizes design, construction and facilities management and is different from other BIM applications. The system allows simultaneous access to many users in real time, with an intuitive web interface, similar to Expedia™. The sustainable and green system has been used on more than 650 million square feet of space to create searchable information while saving more than 12 million pages of documents. The system provides comprehensive visually informative access, much like Google’s search engine, but with the added components of BIM and Integrated Decision Making.
With the alignment, which takes effect September 1, 2010, both Kimon Onuma and Finith Jernigan formalize their long standing collaborative working arrangement and again, move the industry forward toward a profound and fundamental change in the understanding of problem solving, sustainability, and communication.
