Across the nation, savvy moms are going ga-ga for children’s consignment. The up and coming site, ConsignmentMommies.com, is helping thrifty families find sales and get tips and advice. To celebrate their one year anniversary, the site is offering a chance to win a $100 Target Gift Card to mommies who join them on Facebook, Twitter, by email or who invite their friends to do the same!
ConsignmentMommies.com is the “baby” of mother-daughter team Chrissy Freeman and Shari Kilgariff. And it is growing. Fast. A year ago, the site began as a local resource for shoppers within the triad of North Carolina. In February 2010, ConsignmentMommies.com went national. Within 6 months, the site received over 1/3 million pageviews, 1,000 sale listings and over 3,000 comments on those sales. “It’s finally ‘cool’ to be thrifty.” says founder, Chrissy Freeman. “Add one part recession, one part green movement and sprinkle in stylish budget conscious moms. Consignment has a recipe for success.”
The site is quickly becoming a go-to resource for consignment sellers and shoppers. The recently redesigned consignment directory offers listings for stores and shops and has a growing collection of articles and advice from veteran consignors and shoppers.
Freeman hopes her site will continue to help educate mommies on the income and savings potential of consignment shopping. She estimates that a mom can make $400-500 a year by selling gently used clothing – with some veteran moms making over $1,000 twice a year selling their goods. On the shopping end, moms save even more by purchasing goods at 30-90% off retail. “It’s really a win-win situation for the sellers and the shoppers.” Says Freeman, “Children go through clothing and toys so quickly that it’s a shame not recycle these items and make a little money.”
