SRI Hermetics’ USB feedthrough is made of vacuum compatible materials. It is designed to enable to user to connect USB cables directly through the vacuum chamber wall. Standard configurations are weldable and mounted on a 2.75” conflat flange or an NW40 flange. Custom configurations available upon request. Also offered is a vacuum compatible USB cable made of PEEK with Kapton wires. The UHV temperature rating is to 200 degrees C (bake out) with continuous use at 160 degrees C. As with most of SRI’s products, they have incorporated BeCu pins individually sealed with Ceramax. The shell of the feedthrough is made from 304L stainless steel.
The CERAMAX® family has been formulated to seal a wide range of materials, including stainless steel, titanium, nickel-iron alloys, Inconel® and copper alloys. Our direct sealing to copper alloy pins allows for much greater electrical current carrying capability than conventional glass seal technology. For example, a standard .018 diameter copper alloy contact can carry up to 10 amps. Our hermetic seals meet the requirements of MIL-STD-883 for hermeticity (less then 1x10-9 cc/sec He at one atmosphere P), insulation resistance (less than 5,000 megohms at 500VDC) and dielectric withstanding voltage (no breakdown at 100VAC/mil CERAMAX®) – even in nanominiature designs. Electrical breakdown always occurs in the air across the CERAMAX® surface – never within the CERAMAX® itself. CERAMAX® is chemically resistant to all chemicals typically used in the hermetic packaging and electronic systems integration industries. Although the non-amorphous CERAMAX® structure is not ideal for high frequency RF applications, the material is well suited for high stress, DC applications. CERAMAX® can typically be relied on to operate in a temperature range of –269o to +450oC.
SRI Hermetics (srihermetics.com) also offers a full line of hermetic D-subs, Micro-D, RF feedthroughs, and circular connectors in aluminum and titanium. All of these parts can be integrated at SRI Hermetics into custom hermetic electronic packages.
