Increasing brand awareness with “Media Monsters”
As one of the world’s leading storage media brands, Verbatim entered the Japanese market in 2009. With its promotional campaign, Verbatim intended to familiarise the Japanese audience with the brand name, the brand concept and the company’s stylish products. Verbatim created a cool online 3D fighting game named “Verbatim Championship” with so called “Media Monsters” made from Verbatim’s products. One of the main reasons for the success of the game – with over 70 million page visits since November 2009 – was its massive viral impact. Consumers could easily attach their “Media Monster” to blogs, Twitter or e-mails and work as free ad media.
At the Tokyo Interactive Ad Awards, one of the most authoritative awards in Japan, Verbatim received the Gran Prix and the Gold Prize in the Product category. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences awarded the “Verbatim Championship” at their annual Webby Award for its excellence in animation and motion graphics. A Cyber Silver Lyon for the animation of the online game and a Bronze Lion in the category Consumer Products were handed out to Verbatim. “We are proud that millions of internet users appreciated our online 3D fighting game and on top of that we received such impressive awards from organisations with an outstanding reputation. Our target to aim at regular PC users in order to harness the explosive popularity within their community worked out even better than we expected”, said Jun Kinoshita, Project Manager, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media Co. Ltd./Verbatim. (verbatim.jp)
