A survey of senior IT professionals commissioned by Zeus Technology, the only pure software-based application traffic management (application delivery controller) company, reveals that over half (51%) run, or plan to run, their websites and customer portals in a Cloud Computing environment. 66% have concerns about how websites will perform in Virtual environments compared with Physical. At the same time, the majority (68%) of respondents are challenged by a lack of understanding of how their websites are performing at all.
According to Zeus, the problem is being compounded by the fact that that 95 per cent of IT professionals now look after complex multi-location environments, which may consist of their own datacenters, co-location facilities, the Cloud – or a hybrid of all of these. 82 per cent of respondents with more than one datacenter admit that it is difficult to manage web applications across multiple datacenters.
In response to these challenges, Zeus today launches the Zeus Elastic Application Delivery platform, which includes Zeus Traffic Manager 7.0 and the new Zeus Multi-Site Manager. This provides organizations with the ability to deliver fast, secure and available web applications across multiple datacenters and Clouds seamlessly, while providing deep, real-time performance visibility. In Virtual and Cloud environments, it enables automatic scaling of applications to meet unexpected peaks in demand. Initially, auto-scaling is available in Amazon AWS, VMware vCloud, Rackspace Cloud and RightScale based environments. Zeus’ programming language, TrafficScript™, allows for business rules and logic to be incorporated, so application delivery can be tailored to the precise needs of the business.
Tony Lucas, Founder at Flexiant, has been testing Zeus Traffic Manager 7.0 in Beta. He explains, “This latest software release from Zeus provides us with one dashboard that allows us to control and monitor all our web applications across multiple sites using advanced visualization and diagnostics. The content caching, auto-scaling and bandwidth management offered by Zeus Traffic Manager 7.0 eases configuration and allows us to accelerate web service speed. At the same time, the application firewall keeps confidential data safe. We believe that Zeus Traffic Manager 7.0 will form a key part of our infrastructure for both our own use and our end-users infrastructure.”
Paul Brennan, CEO, Zeus Technology comments, “The survey findings indicate that current conditions are creating the perfect storm for IT professionals, making managing complex web applications across distributed Physical, Virtual and Cloud environments particularly challenging. We are confident that the Zeus Elastic Application Delivery platform will enable companies to create, manage and deliver exceptional online services to give companies that essential competitive edge.”
The survey, conducted by Vanson Bourne in May 2010, surveyed 100 IT directors and senior managers in the UK.
Zeus Traffic Manager 7.0 has been in beta trial with selected customers including Play.com, Netic, Foehn, Hostway, Gilt Groupe and Joyent. The commercial release will be available in summer 2010.
