Timothy P. Cost, a 30-year corporate-affairs and investor-relations veteran with executive experience at several of the world's top health-care companies, today was named global chair, health care, and executive vice president at APCO Worldwide, Margery Kraus, APCO founder and chief executive officer, announced.
Cost served most recently as senior vice president, corporate affairs, for Wyeth, the $22-billion global health-care company recently acquired by Pfizer.
"Tim's appointment marks a significant step in APCO's growth as a leading counselor in the health-care sector," said Kraus. "He has been a leader in health-care communication for decades, and now our clients will gain the value of the depth of his experience and special expertise."
"The landscape has changed, and companies need to be better aligned, faster and more integrated in their marketing, policy and communication than ever before," said Cost. "APCO is well positioned to help senior leadership execute on this challenge."
Cost joins a diverse team of health experts at APCO, including Courtney Piron, head of the firm's health-policy practice and former director in Pfizer’s economic and policy research group; Wayne Pines, former associate commissioner for public affairs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; Ken Thorpe, former deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); Kirsten Thistle, head of the Washington, D.C., health practice and expert on science and risk communication; Bill Pierce, former deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at HHS; and Tresja Bolt, who leads APCO's health-care work in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
APCO expects Cost's combination of expertise in public affairs, business and corporate communication to be a major asset for the firm.
"This is a time of change for health-care companies, and Tim's extensive career in health care has given him an unparalleled understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by our clients in this sector," said Robert Schooling, managing director of APCO's Washington, D.C., office. "We are honored to welcome him to APCO and look forward to his leadership."
"We welcome Tim's deep understanding of all ends of the corporate communication spectrum, from strategic counsel to investor relations," said Nelson Fernandez, managing director of APCO's New York office. "We are thrilled to have him as part of our team."
