NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, has announced that the Volvo Car Corporation is the first auto company in Russia offering NAVTEQ MapCare with sales of new cars equipped with navigation systems. This is an expansion to the NAVTEQ MapCare programme which initiated in Europe in May 2009 and which automatically provides Volvo drivers with the latest map update when it becomes available for their vehicle.
NAVTEQ recognizes the value of map updates to its customers and consumers: According to NAVTEQ research*, consumers want frequent map updates that include information about new roads and changes to road layouts so that their navigation systems can be kept working optimally. In addition, in 2009, a study conducted by NAVTEQ** indicated that 80% of Russian drivers expressed an interest in purchasing a map update for their navigation systems, reflecting the relevance of this new MapCare programme to Volvo drivers.
The expansion of NAVTEQ Mapcare to Russia marks Volvo’s commitment to providing the freshest, most up-to-date navigation maps which allow optimal system performance. Russian drivers buying a Volvo C30, S40, V50, C70, V70, XC70, S80, XC60, XC90 will receive two complimentary map updates delivered automatically when they are available. The programme is available through all Volvo Car Corporation dealerships in Russia.
A current map is significantly important in Russia where NAVTEQ is rapidly expanding its map coverage. The road network changes annually and up-to-date maps are critical to generate more efficient routes.
"In 2009, NAVTEQ conducted research which demonstrated that the regular use of a navigation system helps a driver to save time, fuel and ultimately, money***. Further research highlighted that an updated map enables a driver’s navigation system to run most efficiently,” explained Yiannis Moissidis, vice president, Emerging Markets Sales, NAVTEQ. “The NAVTEQ MapCare programme enables drivers to have the latest map data which allows their navigation systems to perform at their best. Volvo Car Corporation recognized the growing customer demand for updates and the benefits a current map provides and NAVTEQ is thrilled to assist them in delivering on this need.”
