St. Petersburg, Russia, 2010/04/14 - ZAO Arcadia, one of the leading custom software developers in Russia, summed up the results of 2009. Despite the hard economic situation, the company kept its key clients and continued a slow, but steady growth.
The company turnover in 2009 was 195,5 mln RUR, or 6,2 mln USD. Turnover growth in RUR amounted to 48 %. Though main part of this growth was due to exchange rate, in USD the turnover growth was positive too and amounted to 16 %. This stability relies on the fact that, in spite of the crisis, the key clients did not reduce the volume of orders.
All key clients stayed with the company for 2010 — F-Secure (Finland, information security), Aditro Group (Northern Europe, HR and accounting business process outsourcing), it's learning (Norway, e-learning), SoftVelocity (the USA, developer tools), UNI-C (Denmark, education and research), Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development, L.L.C. (USA, development of innovative health care products). Besides, in 2009 Arcadia resumed working with Insurance company ERGO Rus and got 2 new clients — Banksurance.com (USA) and NIPK Electron (Russia).
No doubt, getting new clients and projects has become harder. That inspired Arcadia to invest in marketing: organization of sales process, marketing campaigns and looking for new strategies, markets and partners.
For example, in November 2009 Arcadia in collaboration with Prisma Consulting Oy (Finland) organized the seminar «Agile and Nearshoring» in Helsinki, Finland. Arcadia, Prisma Consulting and long-term clients of Arcadia — F-Secure and Aditro— shared the successful experience of using Agile methodologies in software programming process in distributed team, which they worked out through many years of collaboration. The speakers at the seminar presented examples of real successful projects using Agile and told about advantages and problems of Agile Nearshore software development process. The speakers showed that adaptivity of Agile matches to flexibility of outsourcing in additional human resource recruitment and cost optimization. Thus, Agile Nearshoring is a nice mix both for new product development and for re-engineering and maintenance tasks.
One more important event of 2009 was Arcadia's office relocation. Though it was forced and it was not easy, the company had enough strength to survive. Finding an equivalent alternantive to the office in the centre of the city, where Arcadia resided for 10+ years, was not a simple task. Still, now Arcadia's office is slightly further from city centre, but it is much more comfortable and roomy — there is enough space for work of new employees to come.
These additional expenses incurred by office relocation did not prevent company from investing time and money in development of employee skills as well as into program of collaboration with the SPbSU ITMO (one of the leading technical high schools of St.Petersburg). In 2009 seven Arcadians passed training with exams and became Certified ScrumMasters (SCM) by Scrum Alliance; a number of employees passed Microsoft certifications.
