Brighton, East Sussex, United Kingdom, 2010/04/08 - Oxford University Press has released the online edition of The Oxford Companion to the Book in partnership with Semantico, a leading provider of services and technology for online publishing.
The companion includes an A-Z section of over 5,000 entries, all linked by thorough cross-referencing and served by a classified index of entries. The text is illustrated throughout with reproductions, diagrams, and examples of various typographical features.
This latest online resource is an addition to the Oxford Digital Reference Shelf (ODRS), the online collection of Oxford University Press's award-winning scholarly reference titles. The Oxford Digital Reference Shelf is powered by a bespoke online publishing platform designed by Semantico, featuring a production interface built on the Semantico Information Publishing Platform (SIPP). The system allows Oxford University Press to manage the uploading and updating of content in-house, simplifying the release of new content to the site. SIPP also provides the flexibility for each title to have a separate URL, maintaining the integrity of the book as it moves online.
John McManus, Online Project Manager in OUP's Electronic Product Development department said ‘I'm delighted that Semantico's technology and expertise continues to enable OUP to build on its successful Oxford Digital Reference Shelf programme.’
Richard Padley, Managing Director, Semantico, said: ‘It's a unique privilege for Semantico to put the Oxford Companion (oxford-bookcompanion.com) to the book online. I'll be reading the sections on ebook development with interest.’
