Otokar, one of Turkey's largest vehicle manufacturers, will in future rely on automatic transmissions and axle systems from Voith Turbo when it comes to selecting driveline components for new bus models. The two partners are about to sign a corresponding agreement. It covers both the nine-meter buses built by Otokar primarily for the export market and vehicles with a length of 12 or 20 meters, gas or diesel-driven.
The nine-meter success model is designated "Vectio". It has a long wheelbase and excels by high driving comfort at demanding road conditions, as well as excellent maneuverability. This is not least due to the Voith wheel suspensions, which allow for a small turning circle. All "Vectio" buses will in future be fitted with the latest generation of Voith automatic transmissions - DIWA.5 - and independent Voith front wheel suspensions.
In autumn 2009, a jury of transport journalists presented the "Vectio 250T" with the "Grand Award" in the midibus category. At the moment, Otokar is building a 12-meter low-floor vehicle named "Kent". The "Kent 290LF" incorporates the complete Voith driveline: from DIWA.5 transmission including the topography-dependent gear-shifting program SensoTop to the portal rear axle and the front axle. DIWA transmissions and Voith single-wheel suspensions will also be fitted in the "Kent 290H", which can move up to 98 passengers in city traffic.
Apart from focusing on the domestic market Turkey, Otokar is strongly export-oriented. The company regards Eastern Europe and the former states of the Soviet Union as its prime sales market. The close sales and service network of Otokar is supplemented by a comprehensive Voith Turbo service portfolio, in order to ensure maximum vehicle availability.
Voith Turbo (voithturbo.com), the specialist for hydrodynamic drive, coupling and braking systems for road, rail and industrial applications, as well as for ship propulsion systems, is a Group Division of Voith AG.
Voith (voith.com) is setting the standard in the paper, energy, mobility, and service markets. Established on January 1, 1867, Voith is now one of the largest family-owned businesses in Europe, with 39 000 employees, 5.1 billion euro in sales, and over 280 locations worldwide.
Voith is an official partner of the initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas".
