Trinity Mobile, an industry leader in mobile ticketing, mobile couponing and mobile marketing, announced today that it has recorded its highest sustained year-on-year growth for the delivery of mobile boarding passes to airline passengers in 2009. According to Trinity Mobile, whose airline customers include Austrian Airlines and British Midlands Airways (BMI), over 600,000 mobile boarding passes were sent out via mobile text messages in 2009, up from 50,000 in 2008. The 1200% year-on-year increase in uptake occurred with little or no direct sales push of mobile ticketing, and was driven nearly entirely by customers opting at the end of the ticket sales process to receive a bar-coded mobile boarding pass with text detailing all the relevant information instead of printing details at home.
Trinity Mobile uses mobile phone technology to scan barcodes directly off all mobile phone screens with a 100% success rate, allowing the mobile phone handset to become a mobile ticket and coupon device. Trinity Mobile currently works with over 100 European retailers, major airlines, rail and bus companies, and leisure and entertainment providers across Europe.

In addition to reducing the costs related to issuing paper boarding passes, mobile ticketing campaigns can also be delivered more quickly with cancellations and re-issues managed almost instantly.
Recent research findings reinforce Trinity Mobile’s predictions of a mass-market uptake in wireless text messaging and ticketing services. According to Juniper Research’s 2010 Mobile Ticketing Report, over 15 billion mobile tickets will be issued across a wide range of industries worldwide by 2014, up from the 2 billion expected to be delivered this year.
