Rose & Kindel, a premier California public affairs advocacy firm with full-service offices in Los Angeles and Sacramento, today announced the appointment of prominent public affairs executive and award-winning journalist Fred Muir as the new CEO for its Los Angeles operations.
The appointment of Mr. Muir, formerly the Southern California Chairman of Burson-Marsteller, comes as the advocacy firm of Rose & Kindel is expanding the scope of its public affairs activities. In addition to managing Rose & Kindel and its long-standing public affairs services, Mr. Muir will be establishing the Los Angeles office of Rose & Kindel’s parent company, Grayling, expanding the firm’s public relations offering in California.
“We are delighted to have Fred join us at Rose & Kindel,” said, Cristina Rose, co-founder of Rose & Kindel. “Fred’s experience in public affairs and media relations and his deep knowledge of Los Angeles and California politics, government and civic institutions will position Rose & Kindel for our next era of growth.”
“For me, Rose and Kindel has always been the standard of excellence in government advocacy and public affairs, and I am excited and honored to be joining the team,” said Mr. Muir.
Rose & Kindel also announced today that long-time senior advocate Carl London will assume the title and responsibilities of CEO of the Sacramento office, and that Marcey Brightwell will continue as Director of the Grayling public relations offering in Sacramento.
Ms. Rose, who co-founded Rose & Kindel in 1987, assumed the role of Senior Counsel in November 2009, to provide strategic direction to the firm, identify the new management team and implement the transition.
“After 22 years at the helm of Rose & Kindel, I am delighted to turn over management of the firm to two such talented and experienced colleagues. I look forward to working with them as Rose & Kindel continues to expand its offering to provide the highest quality advocacy services, along with public relations, at the state and local level.”
Michael Murphy, CEO of Grayling, the parent company of Rose & Kindel, said: “With Fred’s knowledge and skills as a public affairs practitioner and his strength in media relations, we will be able to expand Rose & Kindel’s offering to our clients whose success requires an integrated approach to advocacy. This appointment also provides Grayling with the opportunity to establish a full-service public relations offering in Los Angeles. Grayling is already represented in the great cities of the world, and expanding into Los Angeles is a significant step in completing our global reach.”
Mr. Muir comes to Rose & Kindel from Burson-Marsteller, where for the past five years he has led a staff of 30 in offices in Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento. Earlier he founded the Beverly Hills- based public affairs consultancy of Fred Muir & Associates, and was a senior vice president for public affairs with Fleishman-Hillard. Mr. Muir has developed and executed integrated public affairs programs for a wide range of corporate, trade association and non-profit clients.
Before entering the fields of public affairs and government relations, Mr. Muir was an award-winning journalist, with 30 years of experience as a writer and editor at the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal and other noted publications. Mr. Muir’s many contacts in government and the public affairs arena were established as a reporter and editor covering Los Angeles City and County government, regional agencies and state and local election campaigns. He was a member of three Pulitzer Prize-winning teams while at the Los Angeles Times.
Mr. Muir is an adjunct professor of public relations at the University of Southern California, serves on the executive committee of the Central City Association of Los Angeles, a leading business advocacy organization, and consults on communications issues with the Los Angeles Urban League, a long-time pro bono client.
