Ron Widup, executive vice president of Shermco Industries and principal member of the National Fire Protection Association’s technical committee on the NFPA “Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace,” will discuss electrical safety requirements for personnel on cranes at the Association for Iron and Steel Technology Crane Symposium in Pittsburgh, Penn., on June 13 at 10:30 am. Shermco Industries is a leading provider of rotating apparatus and electrical power system testing, commissioning, repair, maintenance and training.

“Quite often there’s confusion in the workplace because OSHA issues federal mandates on what employers are required to do, but does not tell them how to do it,” Widup said. “That’s why it’s so important for employers and workers dealing with the added hazards associated with cranes to understand NFPA 70E. This standard provides guidance for safe work practices and personal protective equipment in an electrical environment.”

The Association for Iron and Steel Technology Crane Symposium, June 11 – 13 at the Sheraton Station Square, delivers down to earth information and experiences from crane maintenance personnel, crane manufacturers, equipment manufacturers and engineering consultants who strive to make the EOT cranes and their runways the safest, most reliable and durable machinery and equipment in the steel plant.
