The non-profit Kearny Alliance has released India Sourcing Report: Fashion Accessories with the support of its partner in development, Global Sources, to help volume buyers source more profitably from quality suppliers in India.
The report includes profiles of 27 manufacturers, plus descriptions, prices and packaging details for 159 popular export products. These include fashion earrings, necklaces, rings, bangles, bracelets, handbags, shoulder bags, wallets, purses, shawls, scarves, bandannas and men’s and women’s belts.
“Many fashion accessories buyers are realizing that India suppliers are using more indigenous materials to reduce cost and offer products with traditional and contemporary designs,” said Alexander Boome, program director of The Kearny Alliance. “This is expected to encourage buyers to add India products to complement their China sourcing.”
Materials used include beads, semiprecious stones and metal for jewelry; leather, canvas and jute for bags and wallets; and cotton, silk, wool and linen for scarves, shawls and stoles.
Suppliers surveyed expect export growth, plan to hold or reduce quotes
The survey of fashion accessories suppliers featured in the report shows:
• 81 percent expect shipments to grow by 10 percent in the next 12 months;
• 52 percent will maintain export prices; and,
• 11 percent expect to lower quotes.
Suppliers noted the main export markets are the United States and Europe, which account for two thirds of shipments.
From April 2007 to March 2008, total exports of jewelry reached $5 billion, up 4.5 percent over the previous year. For the same period, exports of bags were $684 million, up 19 percent; hats and scarves were $413 million, up 24 percent.
More new sources for international buyers, more export orders and jobs in India “The objective of this sourcing report is to help create job opportunities for small and medium export manufacturers in India,” Boome said.
“This is to advance The Kearny Alliance’s mission of Aid through Trade. Global Sources – as part of its corporate social responsibility - gives featured suppliers websites on Global Sources Online to help them reach its quality buyer community of 850,000.”
One supplier in the report, Bharat Aggarwal, managing director of Laaj International, said: “The in-person online catalog training given by The Kearny Alliance makes it easy for us to update our products and company information on Global Sources Online.
“The ‘how to handle buyer inquiries’ information is useful to help us better respond to buyers’ needs – and convert their inquiries into orders. We are confident that our experience as an exporter and a ‘verified supplier’ on Global Sources Online will give more buyers confidence to order from us.”
