Palo Alto Networks, the leader in next-generation firewalls, today announced that it has named former senior vice president of marketing, SaaS, and IT at Serena Software René Bonvanie as its new head of worldwide marketing.

Mr. Bonvanie brings more than 25 years of executive management and marketing experience in the enterprise technology industry to Palo Alto Networks. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of marketing, SaaS, and IT at Serena Software. Before Serena, Mr. Bonvanie was senior vice president of global marketing at SAP. Earlier in his career, he served as chief marketing officer at Business Objects, where he was responsible for all marketing activity, including corporate communications, field marketing, and product marketing. Earlier, Mr. Bonvanie served as senior vice president of worldwide marketing at VERITAS Software Corporation, where he led the company’s marketing and corporate communications around the globe. Prior to VERITAS, he served for nearly 10 years as vice president of product marketing at Oracle Corporation where he managed the Oracle database product line, had editorial responsibility for Oracle Magazine and Profit Magazine, and co-founded Oracle’s developer program, Oracle Technology Network. Mr. Bonvanie started his career at Ingres where we worked for 8 years and held senior roles in sales and marketing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
