London, United Kingdom, 2009/09/21 - New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Executive Report on Insights and Solutions to Improving Rural Mobility in the United Kingdom, finds that a range of mobility solutions exist for rural populations of the United Kingdom.
Government and local rural bodies in the United Kingdom face the daunting tasks of providing effective public transportation to a growing senescent rural population while lowering emission levels and trying to increase the low commercial viability of the existing infrastructure. Advances in technology, including navigation and communications systems, will help government bodies achieve effective, commercially viable, and environmentally-friendly public transportation.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (automotive.frost.com), Executive Report on Insights and Solutions to Improving Rural Mobility in the United Kingdom, finds that a range of mobility solutions exist for rural populations of the United Kingdom.
"People tend to use private transportation because the public transportation network in rural areas across the United Kingdom is so poorly connected," notes Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Mohamed Mubarak M. M. "The resultant reliance on private cars is raising emission levels in these regions." Currently, nearly 90 per cent of total distance covered for personal travel is done by private car and private vehicles account for nearly 80 per cent of total CO2 emissions. This works out to nearly 50 per cent more CO2 emissions than that in urban areas.
That said, ensuring rural mobility in sparsely populated areas is expensive. The buses run on a commercial basis in rural areas and suffer from low frequency. "The commercial viability of providing public transportation in sparsely inhabited areas is a major concern," states Mubarak.
Progress in rural mobility solutions will hinge on technology developments in navigation and communication systems that can improve transportation safety and reduce emission levels. "The prospect of lowering CO2 emissions in rural regions of the United Kingdom is creating a strong business case to develop eco-friendly mobility infrastructure," concludes Mubarak.
