Raleigh, NC, United States, 06/09/2009 – Miller’s primary duties involve managing TransEnterix’s rapid prototype development operations. The company is developing a revolutionary single-incision, single-port, multi-channel laparoscopic surgical platform that will allow a surgeon to remove a patient's gall bladder and perform other abdominal surgeries without leaving a visible scar. Fewer complications, faster full recovery and an improved cosmetic result are potential benefits of the new technology.
TransEnterix relies on rapid prototyping, intense pre-clinical labs and hands-on collaboration with expert surgeons who provide input into device development to accelerate the company’s learning and allow it to bring a device to market more quickly.
It is Miller’s responsibility to integrate prototype improvements in a way that will ensure the final product’s large-scale manufacturability.
“Tom takes big-picture vision and tangible ideas coming from several different sources and turns them into a workable solution that we hope ultimately will end up in the hands of physicians performing minimally invasive surgery,” said Todd M. Pope, president and CEO.
Miller came to TransEnterix from Synecor, bringing with him more than 25 years of professional experience in designing and manufacturing medical devices and components. Prior to joining Synecor, he served as CEO of M3 Medical and held leadership roles at Globus Medical.
TransEnterix (TransEnterix.com), an emerging medical device company, partners with the world’s leading physicians to rapidly develop pioneering technologies that revolutionize minimally invasive surgery. The company has secured $21 million in Series A venture capital funding.
