The economic downturn has restricted marketing expenditure particularly among the British medium sized business market. This has led many sectors to increasingly use outsourced call centres to provide pay per performance telemarketing services. The over-capacity in the offshore call centre sector has also meant that vendors have increasingly looked to fill this spare capacity with pay per performance activity. Besides this, over 90% of these projects have been proven to fail with failure rates rising to over 99% for new entrants into the marketplace.

Call centre and business process outsourcing consultancy firm Info Valley Limited (infovalley.co.uk) have launched a revised service offering to assist companies new at pay-per-performance telemarketing to ensure maximum conversion rates over the long-term whilst ensuring that all compliance issues are being met. The new service offering is to be called maxicon because the ultimate aim of the service is to maximise conversion rates. The service offering covers the full spectrum from program design through to vendor selection and ongoing management. Many companies who choose results based telemarketing to increase their sales often believe that it is a simple and quick way to make sales. However, in excess of 80% of them breach legislation in regards to the Data Protection Act, Telephone Preference Service or generally misrepresent their product offering.

Outsourcing the telemarketing does not limit the company’s own liability in terms of legal compliance but many companies believe that it does. Info Valley estimates that the use of pay-per-performance telemarketing will increase by 40% among British businesses between now and the end of 2011 unless there is a dramatic increase in the economic conditions. This will happen at the same time as a significant reduction in the number of vendors offering payment by results payment methods.
