PaceControls today announced that Stephen A. Costantino, Ph.D., an experienced international manufacturing and cleantech executive, would join the company as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining PaceControls, Dr. Costantino was Chief Technology and Operating Officer at Blue Square Energy, a company dedicated to the development and manufacture of cost-effective solar cell devices. His entry into the clean technology arena was through his role as Vice President of the Technology Commercialization Group with Pennsylvania’s Ben Franklin Technology Partners, leading the formation of the organization’s initiative in this sector both in the Greater Philadelphia region and on a statewide basis.
Dr. Costantino was previously the CTO/COO for Oxane Materials, Inc. of Houston, Texas, a late-stage venture-backed company dedicated to applying nano-particle technology solutions in the energy industry. Prior to this, he spent 14 years with multinational Cabot Corporation. While at Cabot, he was the Managing Director, Advanced Capacitor Materials Business, and Global Director, Research and Development for the Supermetals Division. He is the author or co-author of four patents, and has extensive experience in product development and international partnering. Dr. Costantino earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Science and Engineering and a Ph.D. in Materials, both from Penn State University.
The company also announced plans to move its headquarters from Philadelphia to York, Pennsylvania, and to renovated offices on the historic site of the former York Manufacturing Company, near the York Economic Development Corporation offices in downtown York. York Manufacturing later grew into the multinational cooling and heating equipment manufacturer York International, now part of Johnson Controls.
“We’re very happy to be celebrating Earth Day with this great news,” said Susann Felton, Chair of PaceControls. “First, we’re very pleased to welcome someone of Dr. Costantino’s caliber and proven executive ability to our team. We’re also pleased to announce our relocation to expanded headquarters, which positions us well for the substantial growth we expect this year.”
“Steve is a phenomenally good fit for PaceControls right now, as it ramps up in Pennsylvania and elsewhere,” noted Tom Tuffey, Ph.D., Director of PennFuture’s Center for Energy, Enterprise and the Environment, and a PaceControls adviser. “PaceControls has done a great job of building on its technology and expanding its markets over the last couple of years, and I look for big things from them in 2009.” PennFuture is a foundation-funded and nationally recognized Pennsylvania energy and environmental advocacy organization, and was a key proponent in the July 2008 passage of Pennsylvania’s landmark $665 million Energy Independence legislation, which provides funding for a wide range of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green job creation activities.
Tom Mills, PaceControls’ President, said, “Steve brings a terrific mix of skills and experience to us, and he’s already contributing at a high level. We expect that he will be involved in every one of our major initiatives in driving our growth. We’re also grateful to the York Economic Development Corporation, for identifying this historic site for our relocation. York has a great local workforce and a great manufacturing history, as well as excellent proximity to major markets and joint product development centers for us.”
