London, United Kingdom, 03/31/2009 – Frontier Silicon, the leading supplier of technology software systems for digital radios, has welcomed a decision by authorities in Germany to launch a new national multiplex for DAB+ radio in Europe's largest economy.
The move, following similar steps in Switzerland, Scandinavia and the UK, underlines the growing demand for digital radio services. Digital radio will get a further boost this summer when Australia launches a range of new services on DAB+.
Anthony Sethill, Chief Executive of Frontier Silicon, said, “The international growth of DAB digital radio services is accelerating. These new services will benefit consumers and advertisers, who will receive more choice for radio content, while likely to drive volumes for manufacturers.”
The last two months have seen three significant announcements regarding the pan European rollout of Eureka-147 family of standards (DAB / DAB+ / DMB):
1. UK government Digital Britain report outlining the migration from analogue to DAB radio.
2. French government mandate that all radio receivers including cars must integrate a broadcast digital radio tuner by 1st September 2013
3. Germany’s sixteen regional governments agreement to start the roll out of nationwide digital radio services, using DAB+, at the beginning of 2010.

Frontier Silicon recently announced the Venice 7 module, a Eureka-147 compliant receiver enabling ultra-low power consumption DAB+, DAB, DMB-A and FM across multiple profiles. As a drop-in replacement for radios already utilising the highly successful Venice 5 module, Venice 7 provides manufacturers with a low-risk, low-cost upgrade route for the rapid deployment of mass-market unified receivers across Europe - including Germany, France - and Australia.
