MVA Scientific Consultants is pleased to announce that it will once again offer its popular course “Fundamentals of Asbestos Analysis by Transmission Electron Microscopy” on May 23-25, 2006. Industrial Hygienists and other environmental lab personnel are encouraged to attend. Diplomates of The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH®) can receive 3.0 Certification Maintenance (CM) Points for successfully completing the course.
“There are over 30 recognized TEM methods for asbestos analysis from air to water to dust to building materials,” says Dr. Jim Millette, Executive Director at MVA Scientific Consultants and one of the instructors for the course. “It is important that industrial hygienists have a broad understanding of how the asbestos numbers are produced by microscopy,” Millette added.
Dr. Millette is an 11-year veteran of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Subcommittee Vice Chair with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and a distinguished author of over 100 scientific papers, books and articles. He has led or been involved with the analysis and characterization of air, water, and dust particulates throughout the United States, contaminated soil in South America, flyash in Asia, and asbestos-containing materials throughout North America. He has advised leaders from corporate America to Congress, and is a leading authority on WTC Dust--the designation for particulate matter resulting from the tragic events of 9-11.
“Fundamentals of Asbestos Analysis by Transmission Electron Microscopy” is just one in a series of microscopy courses offered by MVA Scientific Consultants. The Firm works with a range of clients to broaden their microanalytical knowledge and capabilities through leading-edge training, high-level presentations, and client-commissioned research.
