Dubai, UAE, United Arab Emirates, 12/10/2008 – SriLankan Airlines is celebrating its 25th successful year of operation in Oman this November. From one flight a week averaging 120 passengers a month and three staff members 25 years ago, SriLankan Airlines now operates three flights a week carrying an average of 1,500 passengers a month serviced by eight dedicated staff members in the Sultanate of Oman.
“On this auspicious occasion, I would like to congratulate our Sultanate of Oman GSA Mezoon Travels LLC for working with us throughout this eventful 25 years of presence in the Oman market and our close knit staff of eight people who were responsible for our success seeing SriLankan Airline grow to what it is now,” said Mohamed Fazeel, SriLankan Airlines’ Regional Manager for the Middle East.
“25 years ago SriLankan Airlines’ UL 206 connected to Trivandrum, Trichy and Madras (now Chennai) and Bombay (now Mumbai),” said Mr. V. Ravindran, Country Manager, Oman. “Our growth in Oman has been remarkable and really commendable and our staff along with our trade partners GSA - Mezoon Travels LLC who also deserve credit for this achievement,” he said.
“It’s the power of our people and the expertise of our partners that keeps our customers flying with us all these years, and our team in Oman works hard every day to make that happen.”
During the first Gulf war in 1991, a very challenging period in the history of SriLankan in this Gulf country, SriLankan Airlines was the only foreign carrier that operated scheduled services to Oman continuously without a break. That record continued throughout the 25 years,” explained Mr. Ravindran.
SriLankan Airlines has steadily increased flights to Indian destinations over the years and now operates routes to Trivandrum, Cochin, Calicut, Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Goa, Mumbai, The airline also operates flight to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore Tokyo & Beijing in the East.
Sri Lanka’s flag carrier is also keen to save the environment. In recent years the airline has adopted a number of initiatives aimed at safeguarding the environment and minimising the impact of the company’s operations on the environment. These include measures to increase fuel efficiency of aircraft and routes; recycling of waste products; purification of effluents; and reduction of energy usage at the company’s many installations.
SriLankan has renewed its focus on customer convenience, and is making full use of modern technology to do so, including a Booking Manager facility on its website, and On-Line Check-In through the Internet.
SriLankan Airlines now serves 41 destinations in 22 countries, throughout the Middle East, Europe, South Asia, and the Far East.
