Digital creative agency Collective has been appointed by Callaway Golf to develop a Flash-based online golf game, to help drive sign-ups to the community microsite MyCallaway.
The game, which launches today, will be available in six languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish and Italian), and will run until 21 December.
It features a cheeky elf scattering a series of parcels from Santa’s sleigh across a golf course. Players have five shots to aim at a target with a gift in the middle, ultimately aiming for a hole-in-one. Each level offers a different club from the new Callaway range, a longer hole and a tougher challenge. The overall winner, drawn from the list of top scores, will receive a full set of Callaway golf clubs with extras.
Collective has built the game using Away3d, an open source, powerful 3D engine used for real-time 3D graphics rendering in Flash ActionScript 3.0. This has ensured that the game utilises direction, power and spin on the ball, and gives depth of space as the ball is hit.
As an additional drive for sign-ups, Collective has integrated a clever daily Competition Prize draw mechanic into the game to stimulate people to join MyCallaway. This has provided a subtle and non-abrasive way of procuring the data capture required by Callaway Golf.
Greg Doone, Managing Director of Collective, comments: “We’ve developed a game that delivers the Callaway premium look and feel, with a healthy dose of good old-fashioned festive fun. We’ve made sure it is true-to-golf in order to appeal to golfers and gamers alike, while additionally showcasing the new Callaway golf product range.”
Jeff Dodds, European Marketing director of Callaway Golf, adds: “The Christmas game is great fun, with lots of good prizes, so we’re encouraging everyone to sign-up and have a go. If you can’t be on the golf course enjoying a real round of golf, MyCallaway is the next best place to be.”
