Frost & Sullivan's Excellence in Research Award is bestowed upon a company that has carried out new 'disruptive' research; and has, in general, a strong commitment to research and development. This award recognizes a company's research and development program that has or is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture. The fruits of this research may already have or will potentially impact certain market sectors. The award also recognizes the company's overall research excellence as well as its commitment toward differentiating itself based on science-backed services or solutions.

Sanjay Singh, Vice President, Industrial Technologies at Frost & Sullivan, says, "The Best Practice Awards, instituted by Frost & Sullivan, seeks to recognise exemplary performance to honor those achievers - while at the same time providing an opportunity to other companies to learn from them."

The Awards seek to identify and credit the best practices within industry segments and are synonymous with Frost & Sullivan's in-depth analysis and coverage of these industries. In keeping with the company's commitment of excellence and innovation, the Awards offered are carefully reviewed and evaluated to reflect the current market landscape inclusive of the emerging technology trends."

Sanjay continues, "It is our desire to continue to provide this platform of recognition for such innovative and world class performance providers through our unbiased research and methodology."

Frost & Sullivan's analyst team tracks research and innovation in key hi-tech markets. The selection process includes primary participant interviews and extensive primary and secondary research via the bottom-up approach. The analyst team shortlists candidates on the basis of a set of qualitative and quantitative measurements. The analysts also consider the pace of research and technology innovation, and the significance or potential relevance of the research to the overall industry. The ultimate award recipient is chosen after a thorough evaluation of this research.

In recognition of its efforts to develop an advanced biosurfactant that can act as an effective remediation agent in oil-contaminated water and soils, Frost and Sullivan proudly acknowledged Bio Research Center of Japan Energy Corporation as a deserving recipient of this Award.

Wai Fun Kee, Research Analyst with Frost & Sullivan's Technical Insights group Asia Pacific says, "Oil spills are a major form of ocean pollution that can result in the death of a whole host of aquatic species, as well as contribute towards the contamination of the shoreline environment. Cleanup of oil spills traditionally relied on chemical surfactants but bio-based surfactants are gaining ground as a safer and more environment-friendly alternative. One of the more effective biosurfactants developed thus far is Japan Energy Corp's JE1058BS, developed by the company's Bio Research Center. JE1058BS was shown to reduce the oil content of oil-contaminated seawater by 81.8% after a 28 day period."

She further observed, "Aside from being an oil spill remediation agent, JE1058BS can also be applied in the area of bioremediation of oil-contaminated soil, in-situ soil flushing, and microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR)."
