Based on its recent analysis of the remanufactured engine and transmission aftermarket, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Certified Transmission with the 2008 United States Frost & Sullivan Award for Growth Strategy Leadership. Using a contrarian strategy, Certified has expanded its coverage of the transmissions market, and found growth in a mature, static industry.
Being one of the few remanufacturers that still offer extensive solutions, the company has achieved substantial growth despite a decline in overall demand in the market. Clever promotional strategies aimed at independent transmission shops, in addition to superior technological innovation, have helped the company remain competitive.
Certified Transmission has its technicians certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) to ensure sound product quality, and provides them with ongoing training to hone their skills in current applications. Apart from this continuous emphasis on quality, the company also stays on the cutting edge of technological development by building and maintaining close relationships with dealer networks and trade associations.
"Certified's products adhere to OE specifications, are dynamometer-tested, and are QS9000 compliant," explains Frost & Sullivan Industry Manager Avijit Ghosh. "The company has the capabilities to produce transmissions for all late-model vehicles using the latest OEM software, related components, and engineering expertise."
Proving its dedication to customer satisfaction, Certified recently extended its product warranty from two years/24,000 miles to three years/50,000 miles. This move illustrates the company's confidence in its remanufactured transmissions.
Additionally, Certified has emerged as a one-stop shop for transmission installers by offering most of the 3,500+ part numbers for remanufactured transmissions in the aftermarket. This unique sales strategy has contributed significantly to the company's growth.
"Certified distributes its own products because wholesalers are typically unable – or unwilling – to carry enough parts to provide the right one when the installer needs it," notes Ghosh. "It delivers them in 24 to 48 hours, since most are available off of Certified's shelf."
A trendspotter, Certified is one of the first suppliers to identify the market potential of working with other transmission shops. As traditional transmission shops do not keep inventory on hand, Certified normally advises that these transmission shops sign on to become the company's distributors. In this manner, the transmission shop can present its inventory to customers based on the inventory available from Certified.
"In response to rising costs and system complexity, shops are increasingly realizing that by having units in inventory rather than rebuilding all units on-site at their location, they can increase their sales and profits when turnaround time or parts and labor costs are high," continues Avijit. "The company has successfully targeted its products at this growing segment, and transmission shops realize the potential of their relationship with Certified."
Apart from offering transmission specifications, maintenance tips, store locations, pricing, availability, and online order tracking, Certified offers technical support over the phone or the Web. The company also ingeniously promotes its remanufactured transmissions to installers through quarterly print and Internet-based advertisements.
Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated an exceptional long-term growth strategy within its industry.
Frost & Sullivan's Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
