Mountain View, CA, United States, 2008/09/17 - Based on its recent analysis of the world bit error rate testers (BERT) market, Frost & Sullivan presents SHF Communication Technologies AG (SHF Communication) with the 2008 Global Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy Award for its SHF 10000 BERT series.
The emergence of faster network standards has made it increasingly crucial for end-users to acknowledge and address the potential bit errors that are likely to occur within such networks. SHF Communication, which focuses on BERT technology for R&D applications, developed its high-speed SHF 10000 series with next-generation networks in mind.
This high-speed BERT series consists of a mainframe, as well as a myriad of additional test components that can be added on through a plug-in feature. The product line features a modular design, which allows for convenient customization and system upgrades by the end-user while offering a high level of performance.
"The basic configuration of the SHF 10000 series allows a device to be tested with variable bit rates of between 6 and 56 gigabits per second (Gbps), and it has been designed to address the needs of the forthcoming 100 gigabit Ethernet (GbE) networks," explains Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Juan Rosales. "The efficiency and user-friendliness associated with the SHF 10000 series make it a preferred test option for telecommunications and university-based end-users in research and development (R&D) application settings."
During the product design phase itself, SHF Communication strived to develop a complete high-speed BERT system that could fit into a single compact case while keeping costs down. The modular approach of the SHF 10000 series allows for maximum flexibility so that the end-user can choose their ideal system from a selection of standard instruments. Additional modules that fit into the SHF 10000 series' mainframe backbone, such as optical transmitters, can be easily integrated into the test product. The mainframe is available in two sizes, with the larger version hosting up to six plug-ins, and the small mainframe hosting a maximum of four.
The SHF 10000 series is controlled by a laptop computer that is supplied with the instrument. Using the accompanying Ethernet connection, it is possible to control the test device through a network. A user-friendly software package provides instructions for altering the operating parameters of the SHF 10000, and it can also automate frequent metrics such as Q-factor measurements and jitter analysis.
"Measurements can be conducted immediately and, upon being collected, relevant data can be exported in text format for analysis by various other software programs," continues Rosales. "Additionally, future improvements to the SHF 10000 are quick and efficient, by simply upgrading the appropriate software."
For developing and positioning a product line that allows for efficient bit error rate testing within high-speed networks, for use by both novices and expert-level technicians, Frost & Sullivan presents SHF Communication with the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy Award in the BERT market.
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated the most insight into the needs and product demands of its customers. The recipient company has optimized its product line by leveraging products with the various price, performance, and feature points required by one or more market segments.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
