The Country of Origin Labeling Law (COOL) demands proof of where the meat on the retail sales shelf came from within five business days no matter the species. Since most businesses will continue to sell a portion of foreign meats, traceback records needs to be perfect. Yes, in just over a couple of weeks all animal meats covered by the US COOL law sold at retail will need a verified audit trail in order to comply with the COOL law requirements, back to the source of origin in order to not receive a monetary fine.
With ScoringAg from retail back to the intermediaries (livestock handlers, sale yards, packers, fabricators) this can be accomplished with ease. ScoringAg also provides archiving storage for the required 1-year time limit for all food handlers involved in the COOL Law. When producers are bringing in animals with affidavits for sales whether to fellow producers or buyers, the affidavit file system from ScoringAg stores the affidavit as a document with a searchable 2D barcode and physical PIDC code and assigns each animal a traceable code that is involved in that transaction. The animal ID is changed into a traceable code, that follows that animal from its origin throughout any point, thru slaughter up to the retail meat shelf. Data storage for every foodhandler including retailers is provided by ScoringAg.
Data examples, like number of animals, animal ID, sex, breed, and age along with an automated Julian date and time of transactions will be recorded in the database. This technology will ensure that the packers and retailers will never get fined when using the ScoringAg database traceback system.
Stockyards, sale barns, order buyers and feeders will need to shift to computers to do traceback of affidavits when hundreds or thousands of animals pass thru their operations from many producers. Losing data or missing data may be a case for receiving a large fine. That accurate data will then need to be exported to the slaughter plant or packers on to the final retailer or visa-versa as they will have to provide all recoverable information within the 5 day timetable allowed by the government.
Packers and fabricators need accurate data from their sellers and suppliers in order to fulfill the US COOL Law data requirements. When using paper affidavits the tasks become unmanageable when a field audit of data is required in 5 business days either from fabricator, wholesaler, or retailer. The ScoringAg database has the coded barcodes to keep animal carcasses indentified right thru the deboning area including case ready meats codes obtained from the data recovery system.
Retail store meat departments need accurate data too in order to comply with COOL along with a smooth and easy data archiving system for the 1 year required data storage period. The meat department also has to display Country of Origin signage on products cut in the store. ScoringAg has a COOL POS sign built directly into the database, ready to print for each animals meat with the Country or Countries of Origin information as required by COOL. All labeling barcodes and traceback data for COOL for the retailers come directly from the same ScoringAg database.
When a search of origin is needed for a saleable package of meat, all data is viewable in a few seconds including the original signed affidavit where the original animal and its affidavit started.
ScoringAg has the only data search engine that covered all aspects of the US. COOL Law from data placement to data archiving, all searchable in a web-based real-time total recovery system. ScoringAg’s database system also has a non-RFID searchable coded tag ID’s, and also has the database set for traditional RFID information recovery whether by animal or meat-container.
By using the ScoringAg search engine and automated barcode labeling system, all requirements of the COOL Law can be easy and efficient. Whether using RFID or barcodes for traceup and traceback of livestock, from birth through the packing plants and on to the retailer or perishable meats and other food consumer goods, ScoringAg.com makes managing data easier and does it in an extremely cost effective manner from "Field-to-Fork."
