Frost & Sullivan Awards BlueWave Security for Leadership in the Access Control Market

(PRZOOM - Press & Newswire) —  Mountain View, CA, United States, 2008-09-12 - Frost & Sullivan is pleased to recognize BlueWave Security, Inc. with the 2008 North American Frost & Sullivan Emerging Company of the Year Award for its exceptional innovations in a market not traditionally recognized for its technological dynamism

Based on its recent analysis of the IP access control market, Frost & Sullivan is pleased to recognize BlueWave Security, Inc. with the 2008 North American Frost & Sullivan Emerging Company of the Year Award for its exceptional innovations in a market not traditionally recognized for its technological dynamism. By introducing Wi-Fi and Ethernet standard-based physical access control solutions, BlueWave has set itself apart from established vendors and has emerged as the market leader.

"The BlueWave access control solution scales from one to hundreds of doors," explains Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Dilip Sarangan. "Each door using a BlueWave NetGen (Network Generation) IP door controller is assigned an IP address, and can be managed over the customer's existing Wi-Fi or Ethernet network, a wide area network (WAN), or the Internet."

BlueWave's new Wi-Fi "Smart Modem" technology is proving to be a blessing for the stand-alone lock industry, as it integrates with stand-alone, battery-powered locksets, enabling these locks to be centrally managed either locally or remotely over IP networks. It gives this industry a chance to compete head-on against traditional panel-based technologies with predominantly the same functions and feature set.

While providing best-in-class technology for solving the problem of physical access control, BlueWave has been careful to choose well while selecting the architecture, as this determines the choice of distribution channel. BlueWave's products are not only suitable for distribution through the physical security channel, but are also uniquely fitted to the data communication distribution channel.

"BlueWave offers an integrated technology solution for both the electronic access control (EAC) and stand-alone lockset markets that directly use the products (IP network cabling and hardware) already being sold through the datacomm sales channel," observes Sarangan. "Other manufacturers' proprietary technologies require separate, independent hardware products that do not support sales of the standards-based products being sold by datacomm."

BlueWave has proven that it has a keen eye for market trends when it recognized that the physical security industry was beginning to take advantage of IP infrastructure deployed globally in the 1990s. The company realized that such an alliance would result in two points of convergence. First, physical security hardware devices would become standard, IP-addressable nodes on the data network. Second, enterprise information management platforms, also called manager of managers (MoMs), would serve as concentration points for data related to all IP-based systems, including physical security related hardware devices.

At a time when IP-camera usage was still in its infancy and no equivalent technology existed for access control, there were several federal regulations and mandates that compelled chief security officers (CSOs) and chief information officers (CIOs) to consolidate all identity-related databases. This was meant to minimize the points of information vulnerability.

BlueWave took advantage of this situation and developed a simple but unique strategy. It built the required access control hardware to enable an end-to-end, IP-based (both Wi-Fi and Ethernet) access control solution that integrates traditional electronic access control with stand-alone, electronic locksets. It structured the access control software application to facilitate integration with large, enterprise-class information management systems.

"Additionally, the investment made by Fortune 1000 companies in MoMs is bigger than the investments in special-purpose physical security management solutions provided by high-end systems integrators. BlueWave's technology is developed on the belief that the surviving platforms will be the MoMs," continues Sarangan. "This belief is bolstered by the fact that all physical security components will ultimately become IP-addressable nodes on the networks already managed by the MoMs."

BlueWave also builds IP-based door controllers, which are similar in architecture to IP-based cameras. Further, it has designed, developed, and deployed an access control software package (network application) that can be easily integrated with the largest MoMs.

Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has emerged as a significant participant within its industry. This company is perceived to have exhibited outstanding management, superior market growth, exceptional customer service, and the ability to combine technology with successful strategic initiatives. It has the expertise to take advantage of market changes through the execution of innovative strategies within the existing competitive landscape.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
