Promwad Company has finished the development of a prototype of multimedia control panel for “Smart Home” systems control. This prototype is based on Cirrus Logic EP9307 processor running under Embedded Linux operating system. The control panel has a large color graphic LCD with touch screen and a wide range of interfaces like IrDA, USB 2.0 Host, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), Ethernet 10/100Mbit, PoE (Power-over-Ethernet), CF II+, AC’97, RS-232. The device is equipped with luminance sensor, presence detector, embedded microphone and loudspeaker, audio input/output connectors.
The board support package (BSP) was developed on the basis of Poky Linux operating system for ARM processor. The usage of Linux OS and Open Source allowed to create a scalable platform, which can be easily adopted to the market demands. One more time System-on-Chip and Embedded Linux combination was proved as successful, minimizing time to market for function-rich electronics devices.
The main function of the developed panel is to control different devices connected to the home network and indicate their status on the screen. But this device is really multi-purpose and can be used as e-book reader or a tablet PC providing access to web & e-mail. Digital audio and video player, photo-frame, internet radio, alarm and organizer functions are also supported. The key advantages of the control panel are portability, attractive design, easy-to-use and low power consumption.
This project was performed by Promwad engineers under contract agreement with European company engaged in “Smart Home” automation solutions:
This project is a striking example of Promwad Company’s expertise on three foundations:
- SoC-based digital platforms development;
- Software development using Embedded Linux and Open Source;
- User interfaces (UI) design.
