Agito Networks, Inc. the company delivering new technology in enterprise mobility, today announced the availability of the next-generation version of its award-winning RoamAnywhere Mobility Router. The RoamAnywhere Mobility Router is the industry’s most powerful enterprise fixed mobile convergence (eFMC) product, purpose built for enterprises to help them increase mobile worker productivity while reducing cellular costs.

Agito Networks uniquely fuses Wi-Fi, cellular, IP telephony, and location information, improving the accessibility and responsiveness of mobile workers, while drastically reducing mobile costs. RoamAnywhere uses the industry’s most complete set of proactive, location- and policy-based metrics, in addition to simplistic reactive metrics, to deliver fast and automatic, sub-100ms handover of mobile voice between WLAN and cellular networks. Other solutions rely solely on reactive, “call-in-distress” metrics, such as diminishing signal strength and degrading voice quality, waiting for the call to degrade before attempting a handover. RoamAnywhere adds proactive metrics, including location- and policy-based metrics, such as handset battery levels and network costs, into its handover decisions, delivering the best mobile voice experience for users.

According to Gartner, Inc., “The concept of FMC/mobile UC (Unified Communications) is gaining interest rapidly, as companies strategically assess enterprise telephony as the upgrade cycle of Internet Protocol (IP) telephony. Moreover, as Wi-Fi was implemented into the enterprise, and Wi-Fi on phones began to appear, the idea of mobile UC grew, using Wi-Fi for voice to fill in where cellular lacked coverage.”1

Agito’s new RoamAnywhere release introduces Secure Remote Voice, a first-of-its-kind capability that addresses the challenges of poor cellular coverage outside the enterprise by delivering a secure voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) connection from Wi-Fi networks in homes, hotels and public hotspots. While other solutions send VoIP traffic unencrypted over the Internet, the RoamAnywhere client uses an application-layer SSL connection to secure VoWLAN from non-enterprise networks. Users can now realize the enhanced coverage and cellular cost savings that VoWLAN provides, in addition to the increased responsiveness of having enterprise PBX connectivity, in a simple-to-use, secure solution. Secure Remote Voice supports all of Agito’s industry-leading capabilities remotely, including sub-100ms secure handover between Wi-Fi and cellular networks, and access to corporate directories – all without a cellular data plan, which other solutions require.

“Here at St. John’s Hospital, our physicians and staff need to be accessible from one device and one number in all areas of the hospital, including areas which have no cell coverage or are restricted from cell phone use,” said Bill Halpin, Sr. Network Engineer at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Ill. “Our use of Agito’s mobility and handoff between cellular and Wi-Fi is going well, and our users are impressed. We like Agito for many reasons, including having the broad choice of mobile devices it supports, such as Nokia and Windows Mobile phones. The other systems we looked at require us to use one specific phone.”

Unique in the industry, RoamAnywhere now offers a “Dual Persona” capability. With most solutions, users are forced to abandon their cellular number in favor of their enterprise number. Agito’s Dual Persona enables users to benefit from a converged mobile experience for business and personal communications, preserving the enterprise number for business calls and the cellular number for personal calls. Users can mark contacts as personal or set the device to personal mode, so personal calls automatically route over the cellular network using the device’s cellular number. Agito simplifies the user experience by providing a converged interface on one device for enterprise and personal dialing, contacts access, and voicemail access. Users now have the flexibility to use this device for personal calls, and the enterprise benefits by minimizing costs related to personal minutes routing over the enterprise network.

“We are interested in Agito’s new release, including its new dual persona features,” added St. John’s Hospital’s Halpin. “We like the idea of users making personal calls in personal mode on the cell network, and not routing those calls through the PBX. With the Agito solution, we now have a system that does not require users to carry a pager, PDA and cell phone, by converging business and personal communications on a single device. In addition to improving productivity and reducing response times due to increased accessibility of physicians and staff, it will help us consolidate our expenses because we no longer will have to issue and support all those devices.”

Agito’s new release offers the broadest handset and PBX support of any solution in the space. RoamAnywhere has qualified support for more than 30 different types of handsets running the Symbian S60 Series and Windows Mobile 6 Standard and Professional operating systems. Agito’s mobility router offers native line-side support for Cisco, Avaya, Microsoft, Nortel and Asterisk IP-PBXs. Unlike other eFMC solutions that require enterprises to tamper with their enterprise route plans and desk phones during deployment, Agito, with its line-side capabilities, integrates seamlessly into existing customer networks, requiring no changes to the ecosystem.

According to Gartner, Inc., “This is where vendor-neutral, device-oriented mobile UC vendors are finding some success, because many large corporations haven’t standardized on a single IP PBX vendor globally, and are looking at vendor-neutral systems.”1

Continuing to innovate in cellular least cost routing, RoamAnywhere also now offers Dynamic Least Cost Routing. Dynamic Least Cost Routing uses patent-pending algorithms to determine how best to route cellular calls, enterprise calls and international calls, allowing enterprises to realize significant savings. For global workforces, RoamAnywhere intelligently re-directs international calls through the enterprise PBX with no user involvement, reducing international charges by a factor of 10 or more. According to research published by Harris Interactive Inc., international roaming fees can cost U.S. businesses up to 12 times more than the average monthly wireless bill.2 For in-building “corridor warriors” and telecommuters, the Mobility Router intelligently routes business calls through high-quality home, hotspot or enterprise Wi-Fi networks, off-loading mobile minutes from cellular to the WLAN.

Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the RoamAnywhere solution starts at approximately $9,995 for the 2000 Series and $27,495 for the 4000 Series. It is available today directly and through leading channel partners.
