Clearwater, FL, United States, 2008/08/15 - Headquartered in Clearwater Florida, PODS® Inc. celebrates a historic milestone with the delivery of its millionth PODS® container to Paul Johnson of Fullerton, CA. PODS also made a donation to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.
PODS® Inc. celebrates a historic milestone with the delivery of its millionth PODS® container to Paul Johnson of Fullerton, CA who recently took delivery of a container to serve as on-site storage during an extensive home remodel.
“I was very surprised to learn I was the millionth delivery for PODS,” Johnson said. “I first learned of PODS when I saw a container parked at a neighbor’s home and thought it was an awesome idea (to have a PODS container on-site) during our own home remodel.” With a paraplegic son, the extensive home remodel will provide structural modifications to accommodate wheelchair access throughout the entire home.
Impressed most with the professionalism and outstanding customer service he received, Johnson said having the PODS container onsite provided immediate access to items that were stored at various stages of reconstruction. “This has been a blessing to our family,” he said.
As PODS millionth delivery, Johnson was awarded one-year of free PODS storage and a $500 gift card to a construction warehouse to help with remodeling efforts. “Now that PODS has given us storage for one year, it will be great to take a little more time to go through our things as we settle back into our home,” Johnson said.
In addition to providing a year of storage to Johnson, PODS donated a container in his name to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles for use on future jobsites. “We applaud Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles in helping families reach their goal of homeownership and look forward to our partnership,” said John Hamilton, manager of PODS Los Angeles LLC.
“Our chapter has worked with PODS for the last two years and is always a great help to our organization,” said Jan Grothe, construction supervisor of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. “The biggest benefit to using PODS is that we can load all of our materials at the warehouse and have it on the jobsite for easy access by our volunteers, which streamlines our logistics and moves the build along much quicker.”
During the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles Jimmy Carter Work Project in 2007, PODS supplied approximately 55 PODS to help build and renovate more than 70 homes on 35 different jobsites in the Los Angeles area. “PODS has been a huge part of our success and in making dreams come true for many families,” Grothe said.
PODS has served in many situations that are less conventional than moving, assisting in recovery efforts during Hurricane Katrina, the Malibu fires and recent Midwest flooding in Iowa, and routinely delivers PODS containers around the nation to communities experiencing emergency situations.
About PODS, Inc.
Founded in 1998, the PODS network currently provides service to a population of more than 236 million consumers. To date, PODS (pods.com) has completed more than 175,000 long-distance relocations, exceeded one million deliveries and has nearly 137,000 PODS brand containers in service. PODS moving and storage services are available in 48 U.S. states and throughout Canada and Australia.
“PODS provides unique benefits for people who need to move or store their belongings for their home or business,” said Tom Ryan, president and chief executive officer. “Our popular white containers offer increased flexibility, convenience and control over expensive moving companies or rental trucks, that is why we have over 92% customer satisfaction. It is exciting to see this new combination of moving and storage grow.”
The concept is simple: PODS delivers an empty storage container and the customer loads it at their leisure. When packing is complete, PODS picks up the container and can store it in one of its secure Storage Centers as long as needed, or can move it across town or across the country.
PODS containers are constructed of a steel frame with specially-designed aluminum skin panels, can withstand 110-mph winds when partially filled, and have a load capacity of more than 3 tons. PODS containers are available in three sizes: approximately 7-by-7-by-8 feet, 8-by-8-by-12 feet and 8-by-8-by-16 feet.
About Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles
“With Habitat we build more than just houses. We build families, community, and hope." -- Former President Jimmy Carter said in an official statement.
Since 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles has built houses in neighborhoods all across Los Angeles County, striving to eliminate poverty housing by erecting decent, affordable homes for all families.
The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (habitatla.org) is to eliminate poverty housing in its community by launching “Building a Greater Los Angeles” with a goal to build or renovate 250 homes over the next three years in Los Angeles County. The campaign kicked-off with a groundbreaking ceremony led by former President Carter on March 30, 2007. The first 100 homes were completed through the Jimmy Carter Work Project 2007. In addition to building homes for families in need, new youth programs, affordable housing advocacy initiatives, and the “A Brush with Kindness” program are underway.
