Dallas, TX, United States, 07/02/2008 - Jorge G. De Presno-Arizpe, a partner in the Mexico City office of Thompson & Knight LLP has been elected as President of the Inter-American Bar Association.

Founded in 1940 by a group of distinguished lawyers and jurists representing 44 professional organizations and 17 nations, the Washington D.C.-based IABA provides a forum for attorneys in the Western Hemisphere to promote the legal profession and protect the democratic institutions in the Americas. Mr. De Presno is only the fourth Mexican lawyer to lead the international organization.

The inauguration ceremony took place on June 28 in Lima, Peru, during the IABA’s 44th annual Inter-American Conference. The vice president of Peru, the Mexican ambassador to Peru, several members of the Peruvian judiciary, and more than 500 lawyers from countries throughout North, Central, and South America; the Caribbean; and Spain attended the event.
Mr. De Presno focuses his practice on advising corporations on labor, employment, and Social Security law, including privatization procedures for public corporations. He also has broad experience in collective bargaining negotiations and strike procedures, labor litigation, and counseling at both the state and federal levels.
Mr. De Presno earned a Master’s of Comparative Jurisprudence degree from the Penn State Dickinson School of Law and his law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.
