International publishing company Sanoma Magazines chose Mendix software to build their Magazine Production Portal and to streamline their production and distribution processes. Sanoma will use the web services based Magazine Production Portal to structure the production tasks of its 80 illustrated magazines. The solution acts as a digital layer between the underlying SAP-system and data that is sent to business partners and distributors. Through managing the complex production and distribution processes, the portal results in a standard communication method.
“Currently all communication needed for the production and distribution of illustrated magazines is done by phone, fax and e-mail,’ said Mendix CEO Derek Roos. ‘So far there was no standard way of communication, which easily could lead to miscommunication. Also, using several unconnected systems, not all relevant information was available in one place. The Mendix solution provides Sanoma with a process & portal layer between the underlying SAP system and information that is sent to printers, finishers and distributors. By standardizing and streamlining these production tasks the chance of miscommunication is reduced to a minimum.”
By using Mendix software, Sanoma Magazines has been able to build the Magazine Production Portal in a very fast and cost efficient way. The Portal automates complete configuration of Sanoma magazines’ production tasks in a single, organized and easy-to-use portal. After collecting data from the underlying SAP system, the Portal configures the information and delivers it to all involved parties. For each separate illustrated magazine all relevant information is delivered in XML. After configuration the data is written back directly to the SAP system where all related information is automatically processed.
