Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak Derbyshire, United Kingdom, 03/06/2008 – A new generation of mid-range hoists designed from the outset for world markets are being launched by overhead crane experts Street Crane Company. Ranging in lifting capacity from zero to 25 tonnes safe working load the ZX6 and ZX8 Series hoists set new standards for safety, reliability and performance.
Commenting on the launch, managing director Andrew Pimblett explained, “This is the most significant product launch in our 60 year history. Substantial investment has been made in design and engineering to produce a family of advanced hoists that can take on the best in the world. For once we also expect currency movements this year to be in our favour making the hoists even more attractive in world markets.”
In parallel with the start of production at Street Crane’s Derbyshire factory, licence holders Nanjing Hoisting Machinery General Works Company (NHM), will also start-up manufacture of ZX6 and ZX8 hoists for the Chinese home market. Street Crane will supply other trade partners throughout the world with hoists in knock down form from their Derbyshire factory.
The new hoists are the product of a radical design process and offer an unrivalled range of options. Engineered for high volume production to meet the needs of crane builders throughout the world, they have the adaptability to meet individual customer and local market needs. The hoists have 30 percent fewer components than their predecessors. They are easier to ship in kit form, are quicker to build and offer exceptional performance, reliability and value.
The gearbox is one of the principal hoist components and features hardened precision ground gears that are immersed in oil within a machined gearbox case. In common with other Street Crane hoists the units have an open plan design for easy access to components and to promote cooling – a critical factor in many overseas markets such as the Middle East.
ZX6 and ZX8 hoists are also designed to minimise height and overall dimensions so that they occupy only the minimum space, making them ideal for modern low-rise workshops. The modularised units are easily customised to meet customer and country requirements, either by Street Crane or by their local trade partners and distributors.
Long term reliability has been proven by an intensive programme of accelerated life tests. This allowed the effect of many years operation to be compressed into a few weeks 24/7 operation. With full loads, lift and fall cycles were followed with speed changes and pauses so that mechanisms were severely challenged. Advanced vibration analysis was also undertaken to isolate and optimise the performance of each individual component.
In the UK, Street Crane will be offered the new hoists on whole cranes engineered by the company. Elsewhere in the world, the company will be offering these hoists via their existing trade partners. In due course, some larger distributors may wish to hold hoists in component form for local assembly and customisation.
More technical information on the ZX6 and ZX8 Series hoists is available from the company’s website.
