London, United Kingdom, 2007/10/31 - Report Buyer, the online destination for business intelligence for major industry sectors, has added a new report on the world market for artificial sensing which finds that it will be worth approximately $18,347 million by 2012.
“Artificial Sensing-Technologies and Emerging Markets” finds that in the next five years the world market for artificial sensing will show a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.0% to reach about $18,347.
The report finds that the market is broken down into applications of commercial and medical artificial sensing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) or logic-enhanced systems and security artificial sensing applications. Presently, the highest market share is commanded by the commercial and medical applications sectors. They have been predicted to maintain their stronghold with roughly 59% of the market throughout the forecast period and will reach about $10.9 billion by 2012, showing a CAGR of 4.6%
Analysts say that AI and security applications will be worth about $5.7 billion in 2007 and will grow at a CAGR of 5.6% to about $7.5 billion by 2012. They say security applications for artificial sensing are by far the most commercialised of the artificial sensing categories, in part driven by the worldwide travel security requirements which have come into place after the terrorist incidents of 9/11. Although drug and explosive sniffer dogs continue to be used in some places, chemical sniffers and other artificial sensing driven technology tools are widely in use in airports, courthouses and other high-security locations.
Artificial sensing includes many disparate technologies used to mimic, recreate, enhance, or digitalise the five human senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. The study finds that while some artificial sensing technologies, such as hearing aids, have evolved over a long period of time and several generations of technology innovation, others such as chemical and explosive sniffers, have gained immediate prominence in recent years. Authors say that this is due to increased global and travel-related security concerns around the world.
This report contains descriptions of the different categories of artificial sensing technologies, and commercial ventures within each category. It examines cross-category applications including multisensor data fusion, pattern recognition and some artificial intelligence (AI) research initiatives and AI-enhanced applications.
The study also looks at the various factors affecting industries directly related to artificial sensing and provides a comprehensive patent analysis, as well as profiles of leading players.
