Aigle, Switzerland, 2007/09/19 - Nivio, the unique hosted Windows™ desktop has secured six point five million Swiss Francs, approximately five point five million USD, in new funding from private investors, each of whom has previously invested in the company.
The funding, which follows closely on the announcement of research and development investment by processor manufacturer AMD, will enable Nivio to extend its development team to accelerate delivery of a series of new features, deploy new infrastructure in Europe and Asia to support its growth and commence a marketing programme to partners and consumers. In addition the company plans to recruit senior level talent to manage this planned expansion.
“I am delighted that all of our investors have joined us again on this round. We have had great feedback from the thousands of people who have joined the Nivio beta and are now ready to expand our capacity for the mass market. By adding data centres in Europe and Asia, close to our users, we will ensure that we continue to deliver a high performance desktop experience as we grow. Said Sachin Duggal, CEO of Nivio. “As we build our capacity we are simultaneously going to deliver new functions and features that will make it simple for people to manage and share their files online via Nivio. We are also close to announcing the availability of a wider range of software through our on demand pay monthly service.”
Nivio was founded in August 2004 with eighty thousand Swiss Francs of investment raised from angel investors. An additional two million Swiss Francs was raised between August 2004 and December 2007 in three rounds. Nivio now employs 20 people worldwide and has data centers hosting in Switzerland and India which host an advanced computing grid that delivers a fully hosted personal Windows desktop and suite of on demand applications, via any internet browser, to Nivio users worldwide.
“I see value in Nivio’s ability to save on infrastructure cost and increase flexibility for smaller corporations, the public sector and individual users.” Martin Wiwen-Nilsson, Managing Director, Goldman Sachs
“Nivio’s CEO Sachin Duggal worked at Deutsche Bank; his fascination with changing the status quo to deliver better systems and high-octane style, coupled with what I believe is the future of computing meant Nivio as an investment opportunity was just too good to miss. My only regret is not having put in more when the stock was cheaper! However I have reinvested twice, with confidence, as the team has always met or exceeded their milestones.” Zar Amrolia, Global Head of Foreign Exchange. Deutsche Bank AG
"I love the idea of Nivio, its so simple- why be handcuffed to one PC? Why is the world buying so much personal computing capacity that spends 80-90% of its time under utilized; only to be upgraded it 3 years later? It is not logical. Nivio can change that." Drew Bradford, Managing Director, Head of Global Finance and Foreign Exchange, Deutsche Bank AG – Japan
“Nivio is an idea whose time has come. If you landed from Mars and someone told you that even with all the computing power and connectivity now available that everyone had their own PC with all their vital data stored locally you would think they were nuts.
When Sachin first told me about Nivio my initial reaction was that it was so obvious that there is no way someone had not done this; when he confirmed it had never been done before, I stopped asking and invested.” Rashid Hoosenally, Managing Director, Deutsche Bank AG
"The enormous global market potential for Nivio's services, the relative competitive vacuum in its space, and a young, ambitious genius at the helm made investing in the company a simple decision. It's what I like to refer to as a "no brainer." Kenan Altunis, global head of FX sales. UniCredit MIB (Markets and Investment Banking)
