Senn Dunn Insurance has landed a spot on the first-ever Inc. 5,000 list of the country’s fastest growing private companies, based on revenue growth. Senn Dunn ranks 3,904 on the list. The independent insurance agency has seen revenue grow by 66 percent over the last three years. Inc. magazine says companies like Senn Dunn represent the backbone of the U.S. economy.
Senn Dunn Executive Vice President Tim Ward says, “Being named to the Inc. 5,000 is a real honor. It’s nice for a Greensboro company to be recognized nationally for its growth.”
Senn Dunn is the largest privately owned independent agency in North Carolina with offices in Greensboro, High Point and Raleigh. In 2003, the agency grossed $9.8 million. By the end of 2006, Senn Dunn’s revenue reached $16.3 million. “Our growth reflects the increased number of locally owned businesses we insure. We’ve also been very fortunate to grow the agency organically by attracting some of the best young talent and retaining seasoned insurance professionals as well. The team deserves the credit for our increase in revenue.”
The 80-year-old agency represents more than 160 insurance carriers and employs more than 120 people. “We’ve been growing at a compound rate of more than 20 percent a year for the past six years. During the three-year period measured by Inc., we’ve added 31 employees. We believe in the economy of Greensboro and the entire state.”
Senn Dunn is the only insurance agency to be named National Insurance Agency of the Year two times and has appeared on the Top 100 Largest Property/Casualty Independent Agencies in the United States three years in a row. As the only Assurex Global Partner in the Carolinas, Senn Dunn is one of 123 prestigious, internationally linked agencies capable of offering global insurance coverage.
Senn Dunn is one of two insurance agencies on the list from North Carolina. Across the country, 48 insurance agencies made the list this year. Inc. also names 11 other Greensboro companies, two High Point companies and four Winston-Salem companies.
The Inc. 5,000, an extension of Inc. magazine’s annual Inc. 500 list, catches many businesses that are too big to grow at the pace required to make the Inc. 500, as well as a host of smaller firms. “The Inc. 5,000 provides the most comprehensive look ever at the most important part of the economy – the entrepreneurial part,” said Inc. 5,000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. “The expansion of the list has allowed us to tell the stories of larger companies, older companies, and a wealth of companies in industries like Manufacturing and Construction that are underreported in the business media.
The 2007 Inc. 5,000 reported median revenue of $9.4 million and median three-year growth of 140 percent. The list features a profile for each company, almost all of them written as a result of Inc. interviews with management. In addition, the list is searchable according to numerous criteria, including industry, city, state, region, and year founded.
