Sematech’s Dr. Michael R. Polcari Delivers Keynote At UT Manufacturing Profit Conference

/PRZOOM - Newswire/ - Businesses are aware of the impact products and manufacturing processes have on the environment and are seeking a path for sustainable manufacturing practices and resources.

Austin, TX, United States, 08/20/2007 – The University of Texas today announced Dr. Michael Polcari, manufacturing industry leader, will deliver the keynote for the upcoming Manufacturing Profit: Productivity and Sustainability Conference on August 30, 2007. The one-day event provides a forum for engineering industry professionals, government and academia to examine sustainable manufacturing practices and resources.

Polcari launches the discussion with an assessment of the industry’s historical approach to solving productivity issues and the challenges to continuing on this path. Dr. Polcari will provide case examples of sustainability and profitability models currently in place in advanced R&D. Polcari will also examine manufacturing productivity approaches from fab efficiency through improved equipment productivity to cost-cutting methodologies and incorporating eco-friendly manufacturing. A proponent of industry funding university research, Polcari will provide a perspective on collaborative efforts from chipmakers, suppliers, universities, governments and consortia to achieve economies of scale and accelerate new technologies.

“Some areas of the industry have implemented improved manufacturing processes that can positively impact business growth and productivity, and we should take their lead as we evaluate best practices,” said Dr. Steven P. Nichols, Ph.D., P.E., Chair of the Advanced Manufacturing Center at The University of Texas at Austin. “These issues can only evolve and improve over time if we can continue to collaborate and build on successful ways to enhance processes.”

Pickle Research Campus, Commons Conference Center, Small Auditorium, Room 1.122, which is located at 10100 Burnet Road, Austin, TX 78758, Telephone: (512) 471-5898.
