Playa de Palma, Mallorca, Spain, 2007/08/08 - Market Metrix, the leading provider of market research services for the hospitality industry, recently released the results of its 2006 Market Metrix Hospitality Index (MMHI) - Riu.com.
Riu Hotels & Resorts earned the number three ranking among international hotel brands behind Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts respectively. The MMHI is an annual report that quantifies customer satisfaction and measures the overall performance of hospitality companies based on surveys conducted with hotel guests. RIU was the highest rated company with an exclusive focus on sun-and-beach resorts in the index.
“This is a monumental achievement for our company,” said Ricardo Luque, VP of marketing for Riu Hotels & Resorts, America´s division.” Being recognized alongside some of the world’s most prestigious brands for outstanding customer satisfaction proves once again that Riu Hotels & Resorts offers a unique, distinct and truly memorable experience for all guests.”
The Market Metrix Hospitality Index’s international component is based on over 10,000 interviews with guests staying at non-US-based hotels. This year marked the first time RIU appeared in the annual rankings.
“For more than 50 years RIU has been committed to customer satisfaction without compromise and abides by the principle that only a fully fulfilled client will come back again,” said Ricardo Luque. “As a result, we are proud to say that 45 percent of all our guests return to our properties for additional stays.”
To reward the tremendous number of repeat guests, in 1997, RIU created its exclusive customer loyalty program, the Riu Class Program. Designed to provide an array of benefits to customers, the program is RIU’s way of saying "thank you for continuously trusting us." The popularity of RIU and the Riu Class Program have been evident as the number of US-based members increased by 40 percent in the first seven months of this year. Similarly, membership in Canada has increased by 21 percent annually.
RIU Hotels & Resorts (riu.com) opened its first hotel in Mallorca, Spain in 1953 as a small, family-run business. Since that time, the company has prospered and grown to become the world’s 27th largest hotel chain operating over 100 properties in 18 countries and employing over 19,000 people around the globe. The company continues to expand and recently opened the new Riu Palace Aruba and the plans to launch the Riu Santa Fe in Los Cabos, Mexico in November.
