London, United Kingdom, 2007/07/28 - Report Buyer, the online destination for business intelligence for major industry sectors, has now added a new report on the growing sales in the US of food gifts.
“Food Gifting in the U.S” predicts that the sales of food gifts will grow by 45% by 2010 reaching $23 billion. This will continue the spectacular 47% growth between 2004 and 2006.
The report shows that while overall gift sales decreased, dropping 8% for the 2004-2006 period, food gifts sales gained in popularity. One reason for the increasing sales of food gifts is evolving food tastes which include the craving for food such as organic and ethnic products.
The report shows that one in ten American shoppers is looking for healthy food gifts and subsequently the variation of these products will increase, reflecting the changing food tastes overall.
Another reason for the increase in sales is to the increasing ‘self gifting’ due to the additional experience or indulgence that food provides in comparison to overall gifts. The report shows that 26% of people, polled by the report’s authors, admitted buying the food for themselves.
The report also concludes that the popularity of supermarkets and big discounters is a good source for last-minute food gifts.
“The Food Gifting in the U.S”. focuses on the U.S. market for consumer and corporate food gifts in the context of all gift purchases. The trends in gift-giving overall have been examined along with factors driving the food-market. This includes analysis of the highly fragmented market by channel, including brick-and-mortar retailers (47% of food gift sales), online and direct marketers (32%), and independents, franchises and distributorships (21%).
