Harrow, United Kingdom, 2007/06/06 - Some European technology companies will face the same future as Marconi, Plessey or Ferranti, if they do not wake up to the new supply chain opportunities and design innovations being offered from the newly emerging markets like India.
This is the finding of The Chilli – the platform for high-tech entrepreneurs, investors and advisors – following a comprehensive study of Indian technology companies and its ecosystem in India.
The findings will be presented in the latest in The Chilli’s series of seminars, “New India, new economy: the myths, realities and opportunities”, which is the result of an extensive research trip by The Chilli analysts to India; the evening seminar aims to explode some conventional myths, examine the real key drivers powering this emerging economy, and explore new opportunities, with a specific focus on the technology sector. It will be followed by a Q&A panel session on how best to explore, engage and benefit from these new opportunities.
Principal analyst Bipin Parmar comments, “The majority of coverage of India in the European business press has focused on and continues to focus on business process outsourcing (BPO) and more commonly call centres; but this is yesterday’s news. Newly emerging knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) business models and engineering outsourcing services (ESO) pose a real threat to many of the European IP (intellectual property) and design companies, unless they embrace the opportunities. It is clear that India has moved well beyond simple BPO – for example, we are now seeing some Indian IP design houses playing a major role in some of the world’s leading electronic sub-systems and even becoming influential systems architects among global design teams at large multi-national companies.”
The “New India, new economy: the myths, realities and opportunities” seminar takes place in Bath on the 21st June at the Innovation Centre, and is sponsored by Cre8ventures, SETsquared, and Silicon South West. The event is aimed at technology entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs, angel and VC investors. The evening seminar will provide an excellent insight into the new opportunities in India as well as the usual opportunities to engage with The Chilli’s extensive global network.
