On average, the indoor pollution levels in residential establishments are two to five times higher than those outside the buildings. This enhances the need for advanced indoor air quality (IAQ) equipment in North America as consumers there insist on equipment offering lesser failure rates.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, (buildingtechnologies.frost.com), North American Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Markets, reveals that the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) segment earned revenues of $818.8 million in 2004. This figure estimates to reach $966.3 million in 2008.

If you are interested in a virtual brochure, which provides manufacturers, end users, and other industry participants an overview of the latest analysis of the North American Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Markets, then send an e-mail to Trisha Bradley, Corporate Communications at trisha.bradley[.]frost.com with your full name, company name, title, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address. Upon receipt of the above information, an overview will be sent to you by e-mail.

While there are numerous manufacturers and suppliers of IAQ products and services, the high fragmentation of the markets and a lack of awareness about specific products act as inhibitors to the fast growing indoor air quality markets.

“On the other hand, the North American population is increasingly becoming aware of the need to maintain superior air quality,” points out Frost & Sullivan Research Analysts Jorge Moreno and Vinod Janarthan. “Enterprises need to capitalize on this and educate the consumers about the new technologies available in the market.”

This education must emphasize the effects of a closed environment that contains polluted indoor air, which can lead to lasting health complications such as lung diseases and allergies. The risk of contracting these diseases is more serious considering the fact that the average North American spends 90.0 percent of his time indoors. Moreover, this proportion is higher among infants, the elderly and the urban residents.

“To help consumers overcome these risks and to stay competitive, there is a greater need for products providing integrated solutions,” notes Moreno. “Manufacturers, designers, builders, and researchers should all offer integrated products, solutions, and programs to end users.”

Companies should develop preventive maintenance programs for implementation by school districts, health facilities, government, and commercial establishments. This ensures better air handler operation and more control over the occurrence of complaints and liability issues.

“Enterprises should further provide IAQ education and assist customers in remaining compliant with the existing environmental protection agencies (EPA) and state regulations,” adds Janarthan. “Manufacturers introducing new products need to adopt and promote unified codes to overcome the issue of the current lack of standardization.”

At present, companies are conducting pilot studies in an effort to identify the interrelated problems and communicate them to their stakeholders. To provide a complete solution, they have to integrate building sciences, laboratory services, and remediation servers under a single strategy, thus creating an interdisciplinary team of microbiologists, industrial hygienists, engineers, public health specialists, and occupational medical scientists.

The North American Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Markets is a part of the (9343) Building Technologies subscription and studies the aforementioned markets, segmenting them into IAQ remediation, and humidifiers along with HVAC air filters, ventilation equipment, and air purifiers. It also provides detailed revenue forecasts by region and end user and focuses on various issues including economic and technological developments, changing consumer requirements, and patterns of end-user behavior. Analyst interviews and executive briefings are available to the press.
