Juneau, AK, United States, 2016/06/06 - PCL Construction Services, Inc. in Seattle has completed Juneau’s largest project in 43 years, the Father Andrew P. Kashevaroff Library, Archives and Museum Building - PCL.com.
“Much of the project success can be attributed to one word . . . communication,” said Bob Banghart, deputy director of the Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museums for the State of Alaska. “Combine that with a highly motivated team and a level of cooperative and creative problem solving, and the overall project has exceeded everyone’s expectations. Having PCL at the table with the owner and design team had a significant impact on bringing desire and delivery into balance.”
The 118,000-square-foot facility combines the three functions of the Alaska State Department of Education Library, Archives, and Museums Division into one building. They were previously spread out over five separate areas or spaces. At its heart, the Library, Archives and Museum is about protecting the existing collections and will provide Alaskan communities with a facility to store, accommodate, and display artifacts of Native Alaskan cultures and antiquities while providing a modern atmosphere in which to access literature.
“It’s been an exciting time to watch the project come into its final completion,” said Tom Doig, PCL vice president and district manager. “We’re proud of the project and our entire team that has contributed to preserving Alaska’s past, present and future.”
The project is constructed as a 100-year building, built to Alaska State energy-efficiency and sustainable building requirements. The Father P. Kashevaroff Library, Archives and Museum celebrated its grand opening on June 6, just one year before the 150th anniversary of the Alaska Purchase.
