Pittsburgh, PA, United States, 2016/05/02 - The PPG protective and marine coatings business will exhibit at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2016 in Houston, May 2-5, and highlight the new PHENGUARD® Subsea coating system - OTCnet.org / PPG.com. NYSE: PPG
The new product combination of PHENGUARD Subsea 610 coating and PHENGUARD Subsea 780 coating is an ideal two-coat subsea system with high-temperature resistance up to 180 C (356 F) for surfaces with or without insulation. The new system also has been designed to fulfill the requirements of System 7C, NORSOK M-501 Revision 6*.
“The subsea market is one of the most innovative sectors within the offshore industry, with state-of-the art technologies used for subsea projects worldwide," said Marcel de Haan, PPG global product specialist for subsea coatings. "One of the main concerns at elevated temperatures is the difference in temperature between internal (e.g., hot oil) and external (e.g., cold seawater) environments." At elevated temperatures, he said, there is a possibility of having a temperature gradient over the coating, which can make coating systems behave differently than in standard conditions.
“Therefore, high-technology products are needed that can deal with the temperature gradient combined with cathodic protection," he added. "Our coatings experts have utilized the high-performance PHENGUARD product technology to provide a reliable and effective solution to the subsea market in the form of PHENGUARD Subsea 610 and 780.”
Jake Ojeda, PPG global offshore segment manager, will join de Haan at OTC 2016, where PPG will exhibit in Booth 3509.
PPG’s comprehensive protective coatings range features outstanding tank linings, zinc-rich primers, general-purpose epoxy primers, splash zone and subsea coatings and durable finishes, combined with its hydrocarbon passive fire protection (PFP)/cryogenic offering. NORSOK 7 - Systems Characteristics
• System 7A Splash tidal zone
• System 7B Subsea for a maximum temperature of 50 C (122 F)
• System 7C Subsea for temperatures above 50 C (122 F)
