Chicago, IL, United States, 2016/04/25 - Leading clean energy company Invenergy, LLC (“Invenergy”) on Saturday held a groundbreaking ceremony at its nominal 1500 MW Lackawanna Energy Center (LEC) in Jessup, PA - InvenergyLLC.com.
The LEC is expected to be operational in 2018.
The Lackawanna Energy Center will be one of the most efficient power plants in the United States. Equipped with GE’s latest technology, LEC will generate fewer emissions and feature the highestefficiency combustion turbines in their class. As a combined-cycle facility, it will maximize usage of the heat from natural gas as fuel, increasing efficiency. The facility will be compact and environmentally-friendly and far more advanced than earlier generations of natural gas plants.
“The Lackawanna Energy Center will be one of the best power plants in the country, and it is an important project for the community,” said Invenergy’s Founder, President and CEO Michael Polsky. “On behalf of the Invenergy team, I want to thank the Jessup community for welcoming us, thank you for standing with us and thank you for seeing the opportunity this project represents.”
During construction, which will be facilitated by Kiewit Power Constructors, the project will employ up to 800 construction labor jobs during peak construction months. The construction contract was awarded to Kiewit because of their solid track record of engineering and constructing projects with proven reliability.
Once operational, Lackawanna Energy Center will employ 30 full-time employees. Over the lifespan of the project, LEC will bring significant economic impact and benefits to the community, beginning with a quarter million dollars in annual payments during the first year of the construction period.
