Technological complex is fundamental for production in any industrial sector, and competent approach to the design, selection of equipment and its correct installation ensure prosperity and sustainable development of enterprises. Samara Plant Strommashina has been professionally solving this challenging task for many years, combining its functions as equipment manufacturer with its activities as engineering and service company. Leonid Alexandrovich TIMOSHCHENKO, Director General of Trade House Strommashina CJSC, has told a DR's reporter about the plant's history, its operation in the modern market conditions and fruitful cooperation with Russian Copper Company.
Huge Product Portfolio
Leonid Alexandrovich, please, tell us about how Samara Plant Strommashina was established and what the milestones in its history were?
The plant's establishment date is November 2nd, 1942. All through the end of World War II the main production task of the plant included fulfillment of short-run government orders for manufacture of steel structures and assembly of towers, as well as for production of radio masts. In 1945 the plant received its first planned order for manufacture of non-military products, and in 1946 it was transferred to supervision by the Ministry of Construction and Road Machine Building. Its name was also changed to Kuibyshev Plant Strommashina. The production capacities of the plant were growing rapidly along with the increase of production output, and quality of products was also improving significantly. By the 80s the range of civilian products included about 80 types of equipment.
Over the period from 1999 through 2003 engineering and production base of the plant underwent upgrading. Since 2005 and up to date Samara Plant Strommashina has been fulfilling annual Government orders for defense products and producing equipment for various industries. Comprehensive approach allows the plant to cooperate with such companies as Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC), Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant JSC, Mechel OAO (Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant), Rosneft OJSC, LUKOIL OJSC, Cherepovets Steel Mill OJSC (Severstal) and many others. It also helps us to hold leading positions in the market of industrial equipment, as well as to perform export supplies. Our customers are located in virtually all regions of the Russian Federation and CIS countries, as well as in Bulgaria, Poland, Iran, Mongolia, India, Vietnam and other countries.
The list of your partners proves that product range of the plant is wide and covers several industrial sectors. Could you please tell us more about what products and services Samara Plant Strommashina offers?
Samara Plant Strommashina produces and supplies grinding, drying, dust-removing and transporting equipment as part of technological complexes for such industries as: oil industry (equipment for drilling sludge processing and petroleum coke cooling); construction and road-building industry (equipment for production of construction materials, including mineral powder for bitumen-concrete and construction mixes, gypsum and expanded clay aggregate production lines); metallurgical and mining industry (rotary kilns with direct and indirect firing, drying drums); agglomerate production (rotary-drum mixers and balling drums); power industry (tangential hammer mills for pulverized coal blend production).
The total of over 100 types of equipment have been designed and are now being produced by the plant. Apart from that, the plant provides full range of engineering and maintenance services and performs design of production complexes on turnkey basis for almost all industrial sectors.
Please, tell us about the main principles of business conducting and advantages of the company, which help it to keep leading positions in the market.
Our plant develops the principles of equipment design and manufacture which were established back in the Soviet times: being first and foremost guided by the GOST requirements, Strommashina achieves competitive prices as compared to foreign companies while maintaining quality level. According to our customers, it is this quality-and-price combination in our products that makes them choose our plant as equipment supplier. While realizing that, first of all, we have to increase the economic efficiency of the investments, we practice an individual approach to every customer including development and implementation of non-standard projects complying with the customer's requirements. Furthermore, over the decades of successful operation Strommashina Plant has gained vast experience and is able to offer optimized solutions which would help avoid additional costs in the medium term.
What are the company’s plans for the nearest future? What present day tasks have been set?
Strommashina Plant is constantly performing modernization of equipment and improving its energy efficiency. We are also expanding our product range, developing new dimension-types and models of the equipment. Thus, according to the approved Plant Development Plan and the New Products Introduction Schedule, we put the tangential hammer mill with separator with capacity of 8 to 60 tons per hour into serial production in 2013. Following the request from Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant, we have designed and manufactured a modernized model of a ball mill for the customer's need.
As our future task we are planning to master grinding and drying equipment operating in inert atmosphere (Nitrogen) for processing explosion and fire hazardous materials, such as aluminum powders, coal, oil sand, etc. We have not conducted any research and development in this field before, but have recently felt the urge to do this due to the increased interest from our customers.
Traditions of Fruitful Cooperation
Leonid Alexandrovich, please, tell us about cooperation of Strommashina and Russian Copper Company.
The list of our customers is long and constantly growing, but we greatly esteem our close cooperation with RCC over the past two years. To give you an example of one of the successfully accomplished projects, we can name the supply of processing equipment to Uralgidromed (part of Russian Copper Company) in the town of Polevskoy: two indirectly fired kilns and tilt-drum smelting furnace were designed especially for the customer's needs and in full compliance with technical design specification; manufactured and delivered on time.
As you may know, this year Russian Copper Company celebrates its 10th anniversary. Is there anything you would like to wish to your partner on this remarkable occasion?
